I have tried 2 different firewalls as of late (pfSense, Unifi USG), and I’m not having any luck. I have had this working before on different hardware but haven’t had a need for remote Plex for years so just had it disabled.
The firewalls appear to be port forwarding… and I can’t imagine between the 2 I’ve set them up incorrectly… I’ve reviewed many how-to guides and see correct settings done for the routing. The port shows as open when I do a port scan externally… but the problem appears to be routing to the Plex server itself.
Plex is running on a Synology 918+ // worth noting is that it has 2 NIC’s that bond - but only 1 has been plugged in while troubleshooting. I am running the Plex download variant of the server software and have installed it as a package.
The logs don’t appear to show anything evidently wrong… and the REMOTE ACCESS enable feature appears wonky at times. Occasionally it won’t show IP’s… and sometimes it will show my internal:32400 and the external:0, but will always fail to enable.
What has me scratching my head is that 2 different firewalls have the same issue with “open port” + “not routing plex?” // leading me to believe it’s something to do with the Synology Plex instance… but I’m unsure where to dig further on it. I do see that the Plex server (via logs and otherwise) can see the docker IP of 127.0.0.1 as well as the locally LAN static IP.
I’ve made sure the MTU on the NAS is 1500 as well.
Looking to see if anyone has an idea of next steps.
