NAS Running Constantly Since Install

Hi,

I’ve recently installed PLEX on my DS213J which is working really well. I access it via my Sony Bravia TV through the PLEX app. I’ve noticed since i installed it on my NAS its been constantly thrashing the disks and LAN light are constantly flashing. I’ve made sure to only add two smaller media directories to my libraries which it completed scanning when i added them several days ago.

I thought it might be the App on the TV so i forced it to log out which made no difference.

Any thoughts guys?

Many thanks, Dean

Plex will poll your network every 30 seconds for new devices to show up.
Plex, the server, is always looking for something to do.

Once all the analysis is complete, which might take days depending on how much you initially indexed, it will continue every 3 days to update things.

Every night, it runs automated maintenance.

Because of how Plex works on Synology the HDDs never spin down.
This is of no harm because NAS-rated drives are better when they’re kept at a stable temperature (actually a much longer life than on/off cycling)

My DS1815+ doesn’t have Plex installed and the network lights blink anyway.
The LEDs are showing you ALL activity being received or transmitted.
Just learn to ignore that. It’s not like what you would see on a Windows computer.

That’s great, thank you…
