I think this is a pretty simple questions for you guys to answer, but I want to be sure…
If I buy a NAS and put all my files on that NAS, like hd and uhd MKV files, will I be able to easily stream those files to the plex app on my lg tv? Meaning, that my lg tv will do the transcoding of the movie?
When I hook up an external hdd to my tv it plays all these MKV files without breaking a sweat. How will this be influenced when have the NAS run the plex servers and basically streaming all movies to my tv. Will the plex app on the tv load the library and stream every movie with any effort?
PS: i dont really need to stream to multiple stream etc, just wish to use the nas to stream movies and pictures straight to the tv via the wired network.
Any advice guys, before I invest in a nas etc and it turn out that it doenst work that easily…which I would expect to be honest :-)?

Media compatibility and video quality limitations vary by device. Plex for Smart TVs uses playback systems provided by the TV manufacturer. In some cases, formats that can be played by DLNA or from a USB drive on a device may not be available for direct playback by Plex.
Note how they emphasize and are overly cautious when it comes to comparing the USB/DLNA feature on your TV with Plex. Besides adhering to the above support page in terms of what your media is encoded to, other factors come into play as well when doing stuff over the network. I’d strongly urge you to get everything connected to CAT6 and gigabitswitch/router, wireless isn’t a good option in this case.
A simple test-installation of Plex on your PC could show you if the files are being transcoded or not, and if your network can handle the load.
Thank you Peter for helping me out. I got everything wired with gb cables and also the NAS of i get one. I will use my pc as a simpel plex media server and see how that works on the tv. Appreciatie your input
