does plex transcode in nas or tv?

hi there,

i have a synology nas where all my media are stored and i have a plex client in my NAS.

Now, i have plex on my Samsung smart tv (2016 model) and when i select a video to watch, i would like to know whether plex is transcoding that video or not. If it is, how can i tell if it’s using my NAS or the TV>

reason i ask is because these movies are large 4K UHD files, and i don’t want the media to be downgraded one bit. I want the raw file to be played on the tv.

When i use DLAN on my tv and find my nas, my tv plays these files perfectly fine. The reason why i want to use plex is because of the way it organizes everything.

So is there a way to completely stop this transcoding on plex and let plex send the file to my tv to do any transcoding if required.

Thanks

You should be able to see that info under now playing - https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201543087-How-do-I-see-what-is-being-played-by-Plex-apps-
