Hello.
I have recently aquired a collection of National Geographic programs (fx.: Ancient Megastructures: The Pyramids, Earth investigated: Apocalypse Earth, Americas Hardest Prisons: The Last Chain Gang… and so on)
My question is what to name it so that it will appear correct in Plex??? Anyone who has the show or just anybody with suggestions are very much appreciated.
If you need anything elaborated just let me know.
Hi!
Check if the show is listed on TheTVDB, and if it is, use the following folder structure for the TV show source:
TV Shows/Earth Investigated/Season 1/Caveman Investigated - S01E01.mkv
It is not listed on TVDB.
Are there really no one out there with National Geographic episodes like the ones i’ve mentioned earlier???
Looks like it's in theTVDB.com to me, maybe you're the one who recently added it (it's open after all)? I just searched for National Geographic and, for example, saw "National Geographic Channel MegaStructures". So the previous suggestions should work for you.
I’ve been trying to do the same for National Geographic Britain’s Underworld …
Hi! I noticed this thread hasn’t been posted for almost a year now… stumbled on it with the same quest for categorizing National Geographic in Plex. Yes, there are multiple listings on thetvdb.com for various NG, and I have spent the better part of an hour trying to correspond the multiple episodes to the listings… with next to no success! ME1986, have there been any developments in slotting this into your Plex library with metadata? I have even looked into the imdb.com site, thinking perhaps the episodes would be listed as a “movie” rather than tv episodes, but again, not much success: there are a few episodes listed as individual “movies”, but they are few and far between. Open to any suggestions!

Same problem here guys.
Suggestions?
Anyone?
I wish there was way to show files in PLEX that are not imdb listed or unrecognized by PMM.
Would be very useful not only for national geographic but also i.e your own movies from holidays etc…
cheers!
M.
There is -- you make a section and use the Home Movies option - it uses the Personal Media Scanner. I use this kind of section for random music videos, concerts, etc. that won't scan properly.
It doesn't solve the NatGeo problem and other TV shows that scan weird, but that's less of a Plex issue and more of a scene/tvdb issue. However it has been noted in the PMS request thread that there should be easier ways to mass list shows that didn't scan correctly.
Home Movie section is a quick work around for the time being, and that section is designed exactly for your holiday movies etc.
what you can always do is contribute to thetvdb.com and actually input the titles, movie cover and details for the different episodes...
may take some time but will be useful for others who may have the same issue...
hope this helps
Old thread but I seem to have found a working solution for NG Documentaries and it correctly identifies the episodes - all the data is sourced from the thetvdb.com
I created a media folder ‘Documentary’ then a subfolder ‘National Geographic Documentaries’ and formatted the folder(s)/file name as follows:
National Geographic Documentaries/Season YYYY/National Geographic - sYYYYeXX - Title.ext
eXAMPLE:
National Geographic Documentaries/Season 2013/National Geographic - s2013e08 - Chasing Ice
I got the listing of all the episodes from here:
https://www.thetvdb.com/series/national-geographic-documentaries/seasons/all
Plex didn’t capture any cover images but I simply added my own, easy as pie!
Hope this helps
James (from Canada)
I know this is an old thread, but just followed your instructions, and it works great, thanks for that! Oh, and I also found a great site for info on the episodes for Poster Art and dates for the specials.
