Native Nvidia Shield Plex app wont Direct Play 4K eac3

Server Version#: 1.19.5.3112
Player Version#: 8.3.1.19108

The Plex app that comes installed on the Nvidia Shield won’t let me direct play 4K content and insists on transcoding eac3 to aac. However, I was able to get Plex to direct play on the Shield using Plex for Kodi.

Is there any way for me to get the Android app to direct play without transcoding? I dont want to transcode and prefer the UI of the android app over kodi’s.

Plex is not transcoding the video, only the audio.

To what is the Shield attached - TV, soundbar, etc?

Does it support EAC3 audio? If not, Plex will transcode the audio to a supported format.

Similar issue with my setup. Plex is forcing a transcode of the audio (but not video), when the file format is EAC3 on my Nvidia Shield TVs. I also have a Fire TV pendant which does not force the transcoding. Physical setup of the hardware is Shield connected to TV with HDMI, TV out to Sonos Playbar via optical. TV supports EAC3 format. Have another Shield connected to a 4K Vizio using the built-in speakers on the TV and it does the same thing. If I replace the Shield with the Fire TV, no transcoding occurs in either setup.

Vote here for the latest exoplayer update. The current player is several years old and outdated. Hopefully plex will act if we get enough votes.
