I have both installed and when using Plex via Kodi on the Shield everything in my library is able to be direct played (sound and video) from my server. When I use the native Plex App, which I prefer due to the integration with assistant, almost everything needs to be trans-coded to some extent. I have made sure that all my settings are set to “original” and direct play/stream is turned on.
Here is my question, why does Plex wrapped in Kodi allow me to play media directly but the native plex app has to transcode. One would think that when they are in direct control of the app on the hardware it would allow greater compatibility, not less.
Also, this is the same on my fire tv and android phone.

Although I can’t directly help I see no such issues. Everything direct plays fine in the native app.
