Are there other native boot-to-Plex, low-overhead OS options beyond RasPlex, or NVIDIA Shield. I would mention PHT+OpenElec, but it appears to be discontinued?
For example, any projects like OpenElec/LibreElec (Kodi light Linux integrated projects) for Plex clients on inexpensive ARM boxes like Amlogic or Rockchip?
The reason I ask, RasPlex and PHT are great - but the ultimate distro for price/video-processing performance would be on Amlogic or Rockchip boards. I happen to have many s905’s here already.
I did a good amount of searching, but everything appears to be implemented over Android as opposed to native-boot projects.
Can’t believe you missed the embedded Plex Media Player that is completely free, that you can install on basically any device. RPI3 + embedded PMP = about $35 plus the cost of an IR remote control.
The NVIDIA Shield isn’t really a boot-to-Plex OS option, but you can get an app to automatically start the Plex app. There are quite a few that you could use with a Raspberry Pi, and most also support PCs, especially with the Plex for Kodi add-on. PMP and RasPlex are directly booting to a Plex environment, but you could also go with LibreELEC or OSMC w/ the Plex for Kodi add-on and have that set to automatically start when Kodi starts.

Sorry, I should have mentioned Embedded Plex; I was thinking of it in the same vein as RaspPlex.
What I didn’t realize, until you replied, is that embedded Plex will run on the inexpensive ARM boxes (often sold as Android boxes, yet can be used for Linux/OpenElec/etc).
That was my primary goal, finding something that ran on hardware other than the Shield or RPi. My guess is that the embedded player would not play on the ARM boxes because they require custom builds based on unique partition structures, etc. With that said, I’d be very happy if my assumption was wrong!

Good ideas. I wanted to avoid the kludges of auto-running through Android, but auto-running in a LibreElec Kodi build wouldn’t have any sacrifice.
In summary – I suppose the simple answer to my question, then, is that there are no embedded “direct boot” Plex (ala OpenElec embedded OS) options outside of the RaspberryPi and Intel/NUC platforms. That the next best option is LibreElec + Auto-Run Kodi-Plex.
Let’s not forget OpenPHT embedded for the ODroid C2.

4K video, HEVC video codec, many surround formats passthrough.
And then there is pretty much anything where Kodi runs on. Install the official Plex 4 Kodi plugin into it (currently PlexPass-only) and you have a very good Plex client. https://forums.plex.tv/categories/plex-for-kodi/p1#top
I’ve updated the list based on your reply and a little searching for RasPlex requirements.
Wetek is an Amlogic device, so it will be interesting to see if I can get OpenPHT working on some of my Amlogic devices here, once i compare the hardware / partitions to Wetek to be sure there isn’t an issue.

OpenPHT on the Raspberry Pi is the same as Rasplex (it really is. same team, same software basis)
