Navigate to next episode - controller bumpers only?

Is there no other way to do this? I use a Harmony remote, and it seems there is no equivalent command for the bumpers that you can program (not just Harmony, it seems any remote, I think including the Xbox One media remote).

Can’t imagine most people use Plex using the Xbox controller (could be wrong) so it seems a shame if this important navigation option is limited in this way?

The next update will add buttons on the page for paging without using the bumpers!

Thanks moussa.uk, sounds great!

Perhaps instead of having to click a button, you could use the >>| (skip forward) and |<< (skip back) buttons on the remote to control paging? Just an idea.

My harmony the bumpers actually seem to manifest as the channel up/down buttons if I remember. I’d have to bring it up on the computer and verify, but I do have something mapped on the remote that works (might be the skip forward/back as mentioned above also).

If you have a Harmony One, or a Harmony that has both two types of rewind/fast-frward buttons (one set with one arrow left/right and another set of buttons with double arrows left/right), then the double arrows will swipe through the episodes.

You can also use the harmony app to remap these buttons if you want (or if you don’t have the physical ones on your remote).

The upcoming version has |< and >| on the xb1 remote mapped to previous/next item in the preplays.

Thanks Dom C… Is that soon? I know, I know…

Have to say, since the last update had no problems - not even any starting in the middle of the episode that I can recall.

Good to hear!

The next update is in private/internal beta right now. We’re in discussion with MS to iron out an issue that will cause us to fail certification. Once that’s unblocked, it’ll be back to the certification process again, hopefully! (unless, of course, something comes up to derail that) (so, as always, afraid no promises or ETAs)

I thought I’d pre-emptively set this up ready for the next version (what better thing to do on a Saturday morning?) and was surprised to find it already works. I taught my Harmony the |< and >| commands using the Xbox One Media Remote (they aren’t available by default) and mapped them to unused buttons on my Harmony remote and I can switch between episodes in a season.

Just thought I should let people know you don’t have to wait for the next version to do this. Dom you are ahead of yourself lol.

@SteveMcNally If you set up your remote using the Xbox One for the device from Harmony, it should have been labeled as SkipForward and SkipBack. These came in by default on my remote when I set it up when I got my Xbox One (which is a day one edition). In myharmony you would do this by going to Buttons -> Remote Buttons (Select Xbox device) and hit Go. Then you just drag them to the spot that you want them.

@“Dom C” It would also be good to mention that ChannelUp and ChannelDown will let you page when you are in something like the main movie screen and scrolling the movies, but it seems backwards (channelup goes right, and ChannelDown goes left) Maybe no one else even has these setup on there remote. It might actually be better in this view if the skipforward and skipback buttons did this instead since they seem to be commonly mapped to the bumper functions (not sure what the xbox media remote does as I don’t have one).

Anyone know of a Chapter Next/Previous command for the Xbox One? I’ve got all the other commands mentioned in this post set up on my Harmony 900, but I heard someone mention in a PlayOn forum that commercials could be skipped using Chapter Next/Previous. I looked everywhere, but can’t find any command that would do Chapter Next/Previous on Xbox One.

If your talking about the bluray player, the SkipNext/SkipPrevious is what works for me.

There is no chapter usage in Plex (except on PHT I believe and then only for direct play).

Ah, you are quite correct, and they were already programmed to long presses on the fast forward and rewind buttons! Oh well, shame I didn’t know that earlier, but got it working either way! Thanks.

No, not in the bluray player…in the media player. I actually did confirm that commercial skipping works on PlayLater files with Chapter Skip. Although I can only get it to work on the PC at the moment. I haven’t found another client that has Chapter Skip for anything other than a bluray app like you mentioned. This would be a really cool feature to have built into Plex, but I’m sure the overlap of PlayLater/Plex users is a fairly small group. Although, I believe you can mark commercials as chapters in VideoReDo as well, so anyone editing files with VideoReDo could also take advantage of Chapter Skip built-in to Plex.

I’d like to have chapter support just for movies as well to be honest (not just on xbox client).

Agreed. I’m looking for feature requests now to see if anyone’s already requested chapter skip feature. I did see a post for chapter support in mk4’s at least. I’ll go ahead and like that one.

@adamskoog
I found this post: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/120636/feature-request-dvd-bluray-like-chapters-support/. It’s got 122 votes so far.

Yup, I’ve liked that one in the past.
