Need assistance on TV show extras - how do I add something manually?

Hi guys

When a new TV season starts we often forget what had happened previously, so I download a recap of the previous season from Youtube. How would I put that into Plex?

For example, I’ve downloaded a Season 1 recap for The Recruit as season 2 has just come out, and I’ve named the video file Season 1 Recap.mkv.

I’ve tried putting it into a sub-folder called Extras, but that doesn’t pick it up, and I’ve also tried one called Featurette. How would be best to do it?

I also tried labelling it The Recruit.S02E00.Season 1 Recap and not having it in a subfolder (so along with the other episodes). This puts it into the season 2 folder before episode 1, but just calls it Episode 0

How do other people deal with custom extras?

PS: I have looked at https://support.plex.tv/articles/local-files-for-tv-show-trailers-and-extras/ but the format The Recruit/Extras/The Recruit Season 1 Recap.mkv doesn’t work

Thanks!

  1. season-level extras are possible, but won’t show up in the web app. https://support.plex.tv/articles/local-files-for-tv-show-trailers-and-extras/
  2. files with a SxxEyy code in them will only get titles and other metadata if they exist on either TheTVDB or TMDB. So, arbitrarily creating an Episode 0 in Season 02 won’t get a title.
  3. some shows have recap episodes in season 00 on TheTVDB. If you use the episode ordering from TheTVDB in your library, you might be lucky.

Other than that, if you want your recaps to be visible in each client type, you must add them as show-level extras:

/TV Shows
   /Show Title (year)
      /Other
         Season 01 Recap.mkv
      /Season 01
         Show Title - s01e01.mkv
         ...

Ah, that’s got it, it shows up as show extras when I put it in The Recruit/Other/

That’ll do, thank you very much!
