I can’t get plex and movies with pgs subtitltes working.
I read that it may be possible transcoding them, but when I transcode the resulting .mp4 file don’t have any subtitles.
What’s the recommended way to handle the pgs subtitles?
I already have a mkv containing the video stream and the subtitles.
the problem is that plex can’t play the mkv. When I activate the subtitles the video freezes and plex crashes.
I had a bad experience with it. There is a completely new OCR engine in it, and instead of improving the accuracy of the character recognition, it made it far worse.
You have one of the most unfortunate combinations of server hardware, client device and media file format…
PGS subs are not supported by the Samsung, so the server needs to transcode and “burn” those into the video picture.
And many Syno NAS boxes are simply too weak to do that.
Realistically, option 2 from above is your best bet.
(Unless you want to optimize/pretranscode all your files and burn in all those subtitles during the process.)
Will optimize burn the sub into the video? If so, how would you set that in plex or will plex just “know” based on all your predefined (assuming the correct) settings?
Make sure that the right subtitle stream for that movie is already selected.
If it isn’t, select one.
(you might want to revise the ‘language and subtitle settings’ in your account http://172.29.0.1:32400/web/index.html#!/settings/account so subtitles are selected automatically, if present)
