I was running a Netgear RM104 v.6.10.1 with the latest version of Plex with no problems. An upgrade to Plex v.1.16.2.1321 was offered via the Netgear NAS dashboard, so I performed the upgrade. The result was Plex (previous version) was uninstalled, then the new version of Plex (1.16.2.1321) failed to install. So Plex is now no longer installed, and cannot be installed successfully using the normal procedures (Apps>Upload). The upgrade/upload appears to be successful, but then the NAS reports the following failure in the log: System: Cannot install application plexmediaserver.
Kind of stinks to be offered and upgrade that makes the service no longer available.
So, is this a bug?..Or is the RM104 no longer supported?..and if so how do I get an earlier “working” PLEX software release.
If all else fails, I was told the Plex Media Server that comes as one of the available apps on the Netgear NAS, works. It is an old version (around 1.11.x I think) but apparently has all features working with that firmware.
Not sure but you might have to uninstall the existing version you have (1.16.x) before installing the older PMS
Login to your readyNAS admin and click on Apps from the top menu bar and there are 2 options: Installed Apps and Available Apps. Click on Available Apps and it will populate with a number of apps one of which is PMS 1.11.x. That’s the one to use.
Can someone from PLEX please verify what is the latest supported version of Plex is and a link to download it! The current release DOES NOT WORK and has made my Netgear NAS RN104 unusable as a Plex Server, one of the main reasons why I purchased it.
OK. No support. I give up! The Netgear NAS is no longer going to be used as a Plex server because IT DOESN’T WORK and I am not getting any support. My nVidia Shield supports Plex, no problem. Lousy support=lousy customer satisfaction.
