I’m looking for a network player compatible with plex. What I mean, is a music player with server-like interface. Just like plex itself. But Plex transmits audio to your device. And I want to remotely control the server playing music itself.
In other words, I want to connect speakers to my NAS\Server (directly or bt) and control which music it’s playing from my phone, PC or any other device at hand, connecting to it through a web-interface or app.
Had this thought, while doing some stuff at home, fixing things, while listening to music from my phone through JBL Charge, and I had to go to different rooms often. And I could not take my phone with me, forgetting it, or hands full. But I had other devices like phones, tables or PCs in each room, as well as Voice Assistant. Would be great if I could just switch track from any device
So, is there such a thing? What are the options there?
I know that Kodi has a web-interface, but I did not use it yet.
Important thing is for it to work on a headless server. My DIY NAS does not even have a video card Just SSH and webmin.
I tried like 2 weeks ago VLC for iOS and i manage to connect to my plex server (internally) i did not try to connect on external, but you can try and see if you manage something with VLC
I think you’re missing the point of what I want. Or maybe I did not understand how Chromecast works after reading.
I want to carry around a JBL Charge speaker with me, and be able to change music on it using any device at hand. And my phone is not always with me. But there are multiple devices in any room. Basically, if i’m in the cabinet, i’d like to just open browser on my pc and switch music. If i’m in another room, i’d like to take a tablet that’s lying in that room, open browser or app and change music. Not carry both the speaker and my phone with me.
I think it’s more efficient than streaming music from the single phone. What if turned music on from my phone, left it somewhere, and walked away for some time. To the bathroom or something. And my wife desperately wants to change the music because she does not like what just turned on. She’d have to FIND MY PHONE first, right? With music server she’d just have to open a webpage, and click “next track”. Or even better - since I have my own voice assistant (custom built), I could just make a command “AI play next track” or something like that.
In fact plex even supports track changing commands sent from Plex server on some players, like OpenPHT.
Yeah, I may be overcomplicating things a bit.
I guess I’ll just need to find a suitable plex player.

Basically, you take a Plex client on your phone, connect it to the ‘player’ (in my example the Chromecast Audio) and then throw any playlist to the playback device.
You can now switch off your phone or walk away.
The next person with a suitable Plex app (Plex Web or one of the 'mobile’apps) in your local network can now connect to the Chromecast Audio and change the programme.
You can try this out (without the need to buy hardware) with a pc, where you install PMP or OpenPHT on. This will be your ‘target’ device to which you connect with your other Plex apps.
