Network stuttering issues on the WAN? Try this...

I initially posted this in the General Discussion, then it dawned on my one needs a plex pass to stream to the WAN.

So…
I just learned of a tool that does analysts of the switching network that makes up the internet. Learn a bit about it here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MTR_(software)
I chose the options ‘mtr -rwc 1000 IP.of.host’ This will send 1,000 packets and take a bit of time. I determined my local internet service provider was dropping up to 18% of my packets with in their network, alone. There is software for every platform of this tool.

I’ve escalated the issue with my provider as I recommend you do, too, if you see more then 1-2% packet loss.
I’m eager to hear from others.

I believe pingtest.net does the same test - you need JAVA enabled browser.
By the way, speaking of speed issues over WAN, another trap you can set up for yourself (as I did) is when you enable QOS on your router.

This is not true, so you better stay in your ‘public’ thread.
