Noob question / statement, I’ve noticed that when recording any show if I select “New and Repeat Airings” then I get copies duplicate copies of the same episode stored. I’m not trying to record episodes I already have, but fill in episodes I don’t have that may be re-runs (not technically new). Is my logic not correct in how this operates?
Goal, 1. record episodes I don’t currently have (from any season), 2. don’t have duplicate copies of episodes, 3. replace lower quality episodes.
Are you recording them to the same library, or a different one?
@neebski Sorry, without tagging me, I didn’t get any kind of notification you’d responded. How are your files named for the episodes you’ve already got, could you give me some examples, and a PMS log of when you schedule an episode you’ve already got?
Ah, my apologies @DaveBinM
For example This Old House, Season 37, Episode 1. That show I have set for new and repeat airings as well as replace lower quality. When Plex records another copy it adds copyX to the file name, x-the number of duplicate files that have been recorded. I’ve seen copy3 or 4 before. Ends up being a lot of manual deleting.
Edit - spelling.
@neebski I’ll have a look at the logs when I can. How are your original files named on disc?
Standard naming from DVR,
E:\Media\TV Recorded\This Old House (1979)\Season 37\This Old House (1979) - S37E01 - Arlington Arts & Crafts Arts and Crafts Class Begins.mkv
Everything else,
E:\Media\TV\Show Name\Show Name Season X\Show Name - S0XE0X - Name - Format.mkv
Edit - adding tag @DaveBinM
Hmmm. First off, I’d suggest changing your folder structure to match the suggested conventions found here: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220687-Naming-Series-Season-Based-TV-Shows
I’ll try to get to your logs in the next few days (I have a bit of a backlog at the moment!)
