I have my settings for some TV shows to record New and Repeat Airings (e.g. for a show that isn’t airing anymore: MAS*H). I want to have all the shows recorded, but I don’t want to have multiple copies for any of the episodes. Currently, I have to go through every so often and delete the multiple copies from my hard drive. Is there (or will there be) a way to record previously aired episodes and at the same time not record multiple copies of it?
Prior to the change from ts container to mkv container the previously recorded episode should have just been overwritten by the newly recorded version of the show. I can definitely see having duplicates with an older ts file and a new mkv file.
With older shows like MAS*H that I am also recording I initially setup the show to record everything then when I get close to having all the episodes I switch to picking individual episodes I am missing to record. This does require some “babysitting” of the recording schedule but takes me probably 15-20 minutes on a weekend to search for the shows I am recording individual episodes and schedule missing episodes over the next 14 days of the program guide. But also keeps Plex from recording episodes I already have. Also has the advantage that each week I am looking at the Program Guide and will know if it is not updating, have never had my Program Guide go completely empty like others on the forum that have discovered Plex is no longer recording shows. I have had some issues with it not updating but never gone under 10 days of guide data available.
This sounds strange. I always have “New and Repeat Airings” for every show I record, because otherwise Plex will only record episodes that are explicitly flagged as being broadcast for the very first time. I have never had duplicates except once or twice when the first recording failed in some way so that Plex didn’t detect a video track (bad recording => record again).
There are plenty of shows here that keep having reruns over and over again, and some that broadcast the same episode four times. This hasn’t resulted in duplicate copies for me, regardless of the container format (as far as I know Plex looks at whether it has an episode with the same season/episode number in its database, not whether a specific file name exists).
I currently have 4 copies of some episodes of Live TV shows I’m recording. Did anyone else ever have this problem?
Some channels appear in the guide as airing a show at series level and not at episode level - This results in no episode identification and if the recording preference is not set to Limit to a channel then this happens
If you let me know which shows / channels / lineup, I will then reproduce and refer to our provider
