New Android app & Chromecast

The new Android app can’t see any of my Chromecast devices, I have around 6 with TV’s audio’s and others.

Other platforms can see them just not the new Plex app.

I have rebooted all network devices, wiped and reinstalled the Plex Android app.

Note Plex web app can see and stream to the Chromecast just fine.

Thanks.

Likely need logs from the app. ( they are accessible in the About section of settings)

nativeLog_0.txt (1.8 KB)
log.txt (18.6 KB)

I think this is them. On android device so no option to upload the .Zip

Had a similar issue where I could not see any chromecasts. Had to add an exception for *.claspws.tv to my PiHole to even see them, but now I can connect, and it shows the plex logo, but doesnt play anything.

Thankfully I have a different device that hasn’t updated and still works.

That’s interesting, I do have an active pihole. But it’s odd it used to work before the update and Netflix, prime, Disney and others stream fine.

Yup, same here. I uninstalled the preview version, and then reinstalled the latest “real” version and everything works again. Funny thing tho, the preview worked fine for several days, and then suddenly “no devies found” error :frowning:

The new experience app is delegating all the casting-related functionality to an external code library which specializes in this stuff, The former app used home-brewed code which relied much on the device’s inbuilt functionalities.
Hence it now needs to access this new *.claspws.tv domain to do its work.
(There is some work underway to resolve this dependency in future releases, so that you don’t have to grant this exception for all time.)

Right I will give this a go. I am unsure how to add this exception but I’ll try.

In the settings of the anti virus. Even the default Microsoft Windows Defender has such settings available.

On my Pi-hole I mean. On Windows chrome browser it casts fine. It’s only casting from the android app

How do you add this exception?

If you go under domains, then add a allow domain exception for “*.claspws.tv”.

That at least let me see my chromecasts with the new plex app, actually getting any content to cast on them is still broken.

Let me know if you need more info and I can try and get you some screenshots or something

Thanks I’ll have a try. I might try disabling the pihole for 15 mins to see if that works

Pihole disabled and I can stream to the Chromecast fine.

That’s annoying

Ok so update. I disabled pihole and casted to it. Now I can see and stream with the pihole active. I’ll keep an eye.

Might need the wildcard on the front end.

Not sure why it’s added all the other bits to it

If anyone is using Unifi Ad Blocking and Pihole. I got this working by adding the wildcard to Pihole AND config.claspws.tv to Unifi, both to allow.
