I thought they set up a proxy for the chromecast issue but if you have an ad blocker this may help

I’m using a public DNS on my router by adguard.

I don’t want to allow this domain, why does this stop the app working.

The old app works fine?

This is extremely disappointing

The new app uses a different method for casting, as the old will not work with new codebase of app. We set up our own proxy to it https://cast-config.plex.tv/api/v2/apps/vzb3278371473/remote/android early on so folks did not have to whitelist that other one. Not sure how strict your blocker is but maybe blocking that too.

if you are willing to share the app logs you can message them to me directly so I can make report for devs

Why was there a change to how casting works? Why does this traffic need to go through tracking services? Is the new app an attempt to invade our privacy and track how we cast? This is ridiculous!

The new app uses Vizbee to cast. The old method I was told simply does not work with React Native if I understood our devs. It was not done for the sake of more tracking.

Will this be resolved anytime soon? Without having to allow that DNS?

Dev here, this is correct. Casting is done through them to simplify our end of the implementation for device discovery and any future new protocols such as Matter Casting. But there is absolutely no tracking being done whatsoever.

They have a tracking product as well which is probably why their domain names ended up on these ad blocking lists, but Plex uses none of this. You can validate this yourself by looking at any network traffic to their actual analytics domain name, events.claspws.tv.

The next release will have this fixed by moving away from their domains to serve the application with the configs for casting.

Great thanks. I appreciate the transparency.

When is this release to fix casting going to come out??

This should be the reason people dump Plex. Trust a third party for casting? No logging, you can’t speak to that and those who can won’t. And they shouldn’t be trusted. It’s absolutely being logged. Unbelievable. Unforgivable.

If it’s on the Internet through a third party, there is absolutely no reason to trust anything Plex says about anything they do.

This is some dirty ■■■■. This is the kind of ■■■■ you expect from Google or Facebook.

This should be the warning to anyone fumbling around these forums looking for answers.

Get away from Plex, far away.
