Casting broke with newest update

I recently got the new layout update and for the most part its fine but when i go to select a cast device it shows none. plex was working fine before the update and other apps like Hulu show devices just fine. all the basic stuff it lists in the help link wasnt all that helpful.

is there something with the new update that i would have to modify permissions wise or something?

Android Pixel 7 Pro

Thanks

Same problem here. I can’t see it from the desktop either. Everything is on the same wifi network and other apps work with my chromecast ultra just fine.

I just see “No devices found” regardless of where I try and cast from.

Phone: Pixel 7a

Chromecast Cast Firmware: 1.56.281627

Same.

Phone: Pixel 9 Pro XL
OS: Android 15
Plex App Version: 2025.11.1 (966828350)

App worked great, got update, now Plex app can’t see chromecast. When I go to the Google Home app, it sees the Chromecast fine and I can cast other media (youtube, etc.) as well a screen mirror just fine. It is only the Plex app that can’t see the Chromecast. This is 100% reproducible.

The new version is dog sh*t. Casting never worked on the beta experience. You have to side load an older version to keep casting. They seem to be having an issue with testing / QA. Just make sure you turn off auto update until they sort this mess out.

UPDATE
Further research found that the issue of not being able to find casting devices is adblockers blocking access to https://config.claspws.tv/. If you use piHole or similar check for that domain in your block logs. It worked for me on pfBlockerNG. Yay tracking!

Most likely the Google Play (arm64v8a) version is correct for modern devices.

Well that’s stupid, but it works, thanks!

Can confirm this fixed it for me as well.

This did not work for me. That domain was not showing up in my pfBlockerNG reports. I whitelisted it anyway, to no avail. I also whitelisted some other tracking domains that were showing up, but no dice.

Confirmed! Adding that single site to PiHole whitelisting works, now the new Plex app can see all my cast devices.

Shame on Plex for blocking things on my local network based on their app reaching some server on the cloud!

This topic should be pinned. This was the solution on iOS as well (I never thought about this. Because Plexamp still found all chrome casts)
