My nVidia Shield got a new interface for Plex last month. It’s nowhere as good as the old interface, for two main reasons. Let me explain why.
Firstly, there is no way to remove items from playlists anymore. Now, in order to remove an item from my playlists after I’ve watched it, I have to do it from my computer.
Secondly, when playing a series, it takes far more button presses to get to the next episode. In the past, after watching an episode, I would just press back on my remote, and then the next episode would automatically be highlighted and I would just click select and it would play. That’s two button clicks: back and select.
Now, when I back out of an episode, it instead highlights to play button for the current episode. So I have to click up twice to go to the episode carousel, then click right, and then click select. That’s five button presses: back, up, up, right, select. Even more button presses if the next episode is in the next season: back, up, up, up, right, select, down, select.
The test with every TV interface is the grandmother/babysitter test. The old interface, I could give to my grandmother, and she could use it. Now, it’s a complete nightmare.
