Firetv user here. Not sure if there’s a different post for this, but I just came to say that this new UI is terrible. Specially if trying to watch several tv show episodes in a row.
Old UI I just clicked the right arrow to go next episode (so I didn’t have to watch current episodes credits)
New UI if I do that I am send to this new UI where I then have to do 3 more clicks to play the next episode.
TERRIBLE
Also, while browsing movies, if click on one movie to see the details and info, when I go back to the list, it doesn’t continue where I was and I have to scroll through 200 movies again to get where I was.
Not only is the new design horrible, tasteless and cumbersome. But also it seems it hasn’t even properly been tested.
Hi,
the new UI for TV shows isn’t really great.
I don’t like the new UI, it’s more complicated now than the old UI.
Is there a way to switch back to the old UI or must we live with the new one?
Hitting back after searching and clicking a movie takes you back to the home screen when before it would take you back to search results, meaning you have to search again. Recent search history still not a thing.
Indication of already watched items now looks as if they are partially watched up until the very end. The old indication of watched/unwatched was much better. This makes me want to mark things as played that are actually already played.
The navigation for TV series is pretty horrendous and adds much more effort just to resume where you left off in a show. Why add more steps?
Actors listed in media items still not a thing. Not really a problem, just seems silly that my roku on my other TV displays this information. It also has recent search history for fast recalling search items.
While i’m glad the Director, actor, data is now (finally) showing up again and other detailed info… I agree on the TV series complaint and also having the issue where you hit back and it takes you too far back, which is super annoying.
It also appears that related movies is now broken for me.
I wish they would stop the automatic updates. The new player is awful, usually stops after three episodes (acts like it’s loading the next video, but it’s replaying the same episode you just watched in the background). Now a new thing is if you select the old player, it just flat out crashes Plex. It is happening on two different firetv devices now (again, using the old player because it actually works as expected).
Stop updating the player automatically! If I set new player to no, there is a reason for it!
Not seeing any advantage to it and there are numerous little bugs in the lack of proper integration with the rest of the interface. Some have been mentioned already. If you search for something and have a look at an item, press back, you’re not taken back to the search screen. If you look at upcoming movies, scroll over and look at one, press back, you’re taken back to a seemingly random movie selection. If I try to mark a group of items as played or unplayed, the plex player just crashes. That’s all I can remember right now. Sure doesn’t seem like it was well tested.
Automatic updates are not “pushed” to the player by Plex. They are installed by your Fire Stick when Plex publishes a new version to the Amazon app store. If you don’t want your apps to auto-update, don’t set your Fire TV device to install updates automatically.
While somewhat true, then how come no other app updates on it’s own? They all ask for permission to update. I will look at changing the automatic update switch (under settings>applications>appstore>automatic updates I believe, if anyone else is looking).
They do. They likely just don’t push such “delightful” interface changes out as often as Plex. More likely under-the-hood updates you never notice. I’ve definitely seen the Hulu interface change on its own. Now it’s not the same “one screen per item” interface they had a year ago.
If you choose to uninstall Plex and sideload an earlier version to get the old interface back, and leave auto-updates off, I think it might still notify you of a newer version being out and prompt to update the first time you launch it, but if you dismiss that it wont bug you again.
Another bug with the latest firetv player UI. Just looked for upcoming show episodes, something I do often. Searched for the show title then selected “live tv & dvr”. But instead of a list of upcoming episodes, I got “No items to display”. There were some episode numbers listed at the bottom of the screen, “E14”, “E2”, etc with no other info or poster and no way to select them. Another item that used to work fine now broken. Gotta find the previous version somewhere so I can sideload it.
