Build of what? There is no new ATV hardware nor is there a software update that I am aware of. Do you know otherwise?

Not that I can see I guess most of it is under the hood.
Yeah it’s 5.4 beta 1. Thanks for confirming that it works. I think the beta enhances it so that it works with the new OSX screen replicating features.

Under General | Accessibility you have pretty well full control over subtitles now. Size, color, font, background borders, etc. There is also an "auto" option when you select from the subtitle menu while watching a movie. Instead of just English and Off, for example. Now it's Off, Auto, and English. I don't yet know what rules are applied to "auto".
I just tested the subtitles. Right now I have a larger yellow text. More easily readable for me.

Quick note, Beta 2 of iOS 7 just went live (both on device and in the developer portal), and there is a new beta for Apple TV.
