The latest Beta Version has broken local metadata implementation for me.
I’ve archived some videos via ytdl-sub which saves metadata in an attached .json file. In the previous public version (1.42.2.10156) this metadata was loaded into plex just fine.
I’ve then updated to the new Beta version today and metadata is no longer being loaded in.
After clicking on “refresh Metadata” it loads for a split second and than appears to be done with the task, but all videos remain metadata free.
I’ve then rolled back to 1.42.2.10156 and now “refresh Metadata” is working as intended again.
Please check as this could potentially break some libraries that are reliant on local metadata files.
Yeah, very likely that the metadata was already embedded to the file and that the .json is just a reference. (I’m not sure how to check this further)
However, the case remains that in the public version the metadata is being loaded, in the beta version it is missing. Same file, same library and generally same setup, only difference being the Plex Media Server Version.
I’m using the Plex Series Agent with “Prefer Local Metadata” enabled in the library settings
Can you run a refresh for an affected title then download your PMS logs and share them? Also, could you share a sample file that is affected so that we can attempt to reproduce?
Ah, I wonder if this is why any newly added but ‘unmatched’ albums simply refused to show the album art (even though it’s there in the folder) until it was matched a few days later?
I’ve partially solved the issue by switching from the latest beta to the latest stable version, running on a Terramaster NAS. For the vast majority of albums I’ve been working on, the problem is fixed. Since some artists don’t exist in the database, I accept that there are no group thumbnails or detailed info for them (because they don’t exist in Music Brainz mainly), but at least the albums and tracks show up correctly.
However, the most striking thing is that I’m still having issues with some albums that aren’t exactly obscure. For example, I have the digital version of F1 The Album, but it shows tracks 0 and 1 when they should be 1 (for Lose My Mind) and 4 (for Just Keep Watching).
Picard hasn’t really corrected anything because, initially, almost all the metadata was fine and the track numbers are correct. I’ve removed and re-added the album, tried it in MP3, ALAC, and FLAC—and it’s the same in all formats.
Honestly, I’m getting desperate. While these days I’m playing “my music” on streaming services as a small fallback with playlists, I’d really like to focus on finishing my library reconstruction. But if I’m already stuck with barely 120 artists…
