Installed server plexmediaserver-1.41.9.9912-371133ff9.x86_64.rpm and its broken cover.jpg local assets for music albums, they are not detected and plex use their own versions.
BTW… its not every album, some work others don’t. These two definitely don’t work when I used local cover.jpg …
I am still on 1.41.6 (having been warned of the db waterloo in .7, having an agent problem in .8). Now, it’s a new deal breaker with local art???
There were times when I just installed new updates - even beta ones… now, I give them a couple of weeks before thinking about touching them. But I am thankful for all you adventurous types out there still checking what’s wrong in new versions.
The title is a bit dramatic but thanks for the report.
There was a very large refactor under the hood with metadata loading/refreshing in this version. Local assets were tested and confirmed working, I’ll go in tomorrow and take a look if I can repro your exact scenario.
Agreed. It’d be helpful for those testing to know what’s been significantly changed for testing and to better judge impact of installing the beta. As others noted betas were usually pretty solid and felt like release candidates rather than beta versions, until more recently, so including some more detail might be really helpful.
With respect, the process is working exactly as expected. A beta was released. A user tested it and found a potential regression. A Plex employee responded acknowledging the issue, stating that they’ll attempt to reproduce. This was all within a few hours.
I know there’s a lot of anti-Plex sentiment here right now, some of it deserved. But let’s give credit where it’s due. This is precisely why betas are released.
You aren’t wrong for how beta releases can be used by a company, but the reliability of betas released in the past vs being released recently has changed. Plex reps used to suggest using the betas for the latest features soonest without much cause for issues because of how reliable they were because they were essentially Release Candidates. Now it’s “you should expect bugs, it’s a beta”.
Bug reports on server issues with betas usually do get picked up quick.
That’s fine if that change from RC to Beta has happened, but in that case, it would be useful to include more detail in the beta release posts for the beta testers as part of that shift. Folks will still be happy to test but this way they could be more aware of what to keep an eye out on. That’s all.
Edit: It’s not slamming Plex directly really… any company that puts out betas for testers should include all significant details and “There was a very large refactor under the hood with metadata loading/refreshing” seems significant. Other places I test betas for do that for us. Heck, the new web version doesn’t even have a release note for any changes since 4.146.0 and this one updates us to 4.147.1 and usually the Plex Server web client is behind a few versions from Plex Web.
No idea why you needed to start your post with this. There is nothing in this thread which warrants a “with respect” suggesting someone has said something wrong or offensive.
Anyhow, bug reported, community warned of another buggy beta and dev investigation. Enough said until dev come back to us …
I started my post that way to indicate that I didn’t mean to suggest that anybody had said anything wrong or offensive. And because I was adding a viewpoint which was a bit contrary to those which had been expressed at that point. I was attempting to do so, respectfully. Indicating that I respected the viewpoints already expressed.
Please don’t try to find offense where there is none intended. These forums have become a cesspool lately; there’s no reason for us to take jabs at each other, however subtle.
As I was one of the guys voicing that “already expressed viewpoints”… I did not feel offended by yours. Let’s get back on-topic now.
Can somebody confirm that issue?
@drzoidberg33 Thank you for checking. I could understand the thread title, because it’s messing with people’s cover art (and with the library curtor’s feelings) which can have dramatic effects to how the library looks like. But you are right, that it’s probably not hard to fix and does not stop people from watching their media…
I’ll also add, that if I edit this album with build 1.41.8.9834 I see both my album art and the one from plex, however with build 1.41.9.9912 only the plex one is visible.
It would be great to have your server logs from directly after refreshing the album on 1.41.9.
I tested quickly with a random album and it I don’t see an issue with mine so I’m wondering what exactly is causing this, those logs might help me get to the cause.
