New Delete Feature in Ver 1.7

Hi.
How does this new Delete or Delete Files thing work.
Can it be shut off. I looked around but found no disable.

Is that feature ONLY on Admin Users Screens?

Can remote users delete files?

Thanks for the info.

Nevermind
Found it under Server settings Library

I don’t think that’s a new feature, but it’s handy to administer your library and delete items you don’t need anymore.

Well that’s ODD after upgrading to 1.7
The option started showing up on the xml screen and the ellipse dropdown for titles.
LOL

The feature has existed for a long time, it just wasn’t enabled by default until this version.

It’s mentioned in the release notes.

Personally, I think it’s stupid to turn that on by default. It should be off.

100% agreed, Leave it off by default.

Absolutely should be off by default!!

I mean, there are so many other options that are off by default and that would not cause files to become missing. WTF! I am my file manager. NOT Plex.

The media deletion is only seen by the server owner, and media is only deleted if you click the delete button. It’s been around for a long time, but was previously off by default.

Oh, I know…We’ll get there.

I don’t think ANYONE requested this to be enabled by default.
There are so many other options that require attention, yet this one gets priority.

Just to provide a little background. The feature has been around for a while, but many people did not realize it was even there. This setting, if never tried before, was null and PMS would treat it as off. This change just changed the default from null to enable. If you’ve tried the feature and explicitly set it on or off, it would not have changed. Plex felt it would be easier for those with more Plex experience to find the setting and turn it off then for new users to struggle and turn it on. If this becomes a bigger issue, we can always review the decision.

I don’t see how this is a issue? Unless the server admin is letting others use their login which would be a poor choice, this isn’t a issue at all.

My only concern about enabling the “Delete” function by default, is the fear that at some point in time a bug finds it’s way into the PMS and everyone can see and use the delete option. Probably not a huge possibility of that occurring, but I don’t want anyone (not even me) to see that option from the server or apps.

Well I was about to come into the forums looking for blood, but if the server admin is the only user with permission that is less of an issue.

Personally I don’t think plex should do anything to media (maybe outside of camera roll/ DVR) thus read only access to files is king and/or snapshots =)

The setting is still there for you to turn it off. And other users do not see that option. They cannot change it. And delete is only possible from PlexWeb.

And from the Plex Android app and PMP

And Roku. In fact, I don’t think MovieFan’s statement is right. I think, if Delete is enabled, the admin can delete media via any client.

Right, I thought the roku did as well, but had not used it in a while so I wasn’t 100% sure

Foiled by my bad memory again.
