Not quite sure what to make of this. Reading the post over on macrumors it seems Apple is moving to a "family sharing" process which apparently might include its own app store. While this initially sounds promising it could also end up being just the opposite considering how they are pushing their cloud process which could certainly require everything going first thru their shell like itunes to gain access to your movies, music, photos etc... Guess we wait and keep our fingers crossed. :unsure:
And it's the official end of aTV 2.
My take on this is that the family sharing side of things will simply be for music, movies, tv shows, and photos.
Of further interest is that people running the beta on ATV3 and Yosemite (10.10) have seen a message about the ATV being available for continuity. It would be interesting to see how that would play out. It could just be a hand-off thing, e.g.; play a movie on your iMac and it notices the AppleTV and gives you the option to hand-off to the AppleTV.
It's also true it does seem to EOL the 2nd Gen as there isn't a beta for it.
I've not tried the beta, so cannot say if PlexConnect still works, if I get a moment or two I might give it a shot, as you can still downgrade to 6.1.1 during the beta period.
