New Development - Opera TV App Store (Tivo, Sony TV, Samsung BluRay, etc.)

Good evening all.

Long story, short.  So I went to buy my father in law a Samsung BluRay player for his birthday. I bought the fancy 5900 (BD-HM59) series, thinking it would be the smart Bluray player with access to the Samsung App store. Boy was I wrong. The main reason I got it was for access to Plex... This stupid Bluray player only runs Opera TV Store and the apps include from Samsung (YouTube, Hulu, etc.)...

So after taking my meds and a few rum and cokes later, I came up with a semi-working instance of Plex for Opera TV around 4:30AM this morning by hacking at the NetTV client.

I'm still working on Transcoding issues, but I keep plugging along.  The nice thing about this is it using MyPlex to get access to all your servers if you have a Plex subscription.  Alternately, you can input in your PMS IP address.

I wanted to throw this out there to see if there was interest for me to continue developing this outside of my personal use.

I assume it would be fairly trivial to expand this to support additional Opera TV apps.  It's just a matter of getting it approved by the Opera TV app moderators.

I ordered last years model of the F-5900 Bluray player for him and I'll be taking this one home with me to test with.

If you're interested in me continuing development on this, please let me know by listing your Device Manufacturer and Model Number.

Thanks!

Michael Rice

I am definitely interested… I would be happy to help test.

Definitely interested here as well

Will get the model number asap

So, so interested.  TiVo Roamio here, along with TiVo Minis, all of which should be able to access the Opera store, I believe.

Definitely Interested :)

I'm ready to take Alpha testers.  I can only take 10 testers (Opera limit), and I'm already occupying a slot. So I have 9 slots right now.  You could be a lucky individual.

***NOTE***: This is like a beta test, but the product is way, way less ready for prime time.  Your device could freeze, lock-up, etc. but no permanent harm SHOULD happen to your device as it's all HTML5 based.  You may have to reboot, etc. DISCLAIMER: I take no responsibility for: wasting your time or money, if your device catches fire, becomes sentient and kills your neighbors cat, or any other horrible thing you could imagine or not imagine.  Essentially, it's not my fault...

Here's how it works. I'll need to add your device to my Developer account with Opera.  It only takes a minute but we need to coordinate it at the same time. You have to be in front of your device and I have to be at the Opera developer console.  This will add a developer URL app where you can directly input in the test server URL.

So, if you wish to take a chance and be an Alpha tester, please contact me via email, meikeric@gmail.com with "Opera TV Plex Tester Request" in the subject line or click this link (if it works): meikeric@gmail.com

I'm online now, and will be for a little bit, so if you are in front of your Opera TV device, shoot me an email with your Google Talk Id and we'll make this work.

Wow, amazing work!

Sony Blu ray player BDP-S1100 here. Probably not suited to alpha testing (not enough usage) , but interested in beta

I'm not finding much info on the app side of this player.  Does this run Opera TV Store or something else?

It appears to. I can download "apps " from the opera store for video, audio and social networks, but there is no Web browser

@burtonis, correct, you do bit get access to a browser. If you are interested in alpha testing, I can add your device to my Opera developer account and that will then give you the option to type in the server URL to my plex app. Once it is sufficiently tested, I will submit it to the opera store so that it can be available for everyone.

Ok. the device is at my in-laws. I will be there tomorrow. Thanks!

I would be very interested in this client for my TiVo Roamio and Tivo Minis.

If you need a tester on TiVo I can do it.

I also have a Sony KDL -32W670A TV

I would be interested in testing this!

running a TiVo Roamio Plus and a TiVo Mini

I would be interested too...

Sony BDV-N9100W (All-in-One-System)
