Some initial feedback on the new android app for the developers.
I am getting the “error occurred - Source Error” when trying to play content away from home. I am behind CGNAT so paying a premium to use Plex to bounce off/relay the server was something which differentiated it from the free competition (Jellyfin) - Are you planning to fix this fundamental bug?
Why is TV theme music no longer working? this was again a nice feature which elevated plex above the free competition and made it worth paying for.
Why is the app so slow and buggy (opening the menu within content results in an unresponsive screen and must be reloaded) compared to the previous android version? I have now “downgraded” to the previous version and it is far superior, loads fast and everything works great.
I understand why you would want to move to a consistent code base accross different platforms but why would you remove features people love as well as add bugs? Can you please give timescales for when these features will return so we know when it is safe to upgrade?
Will you continue to support the previous native Android and IOS apps indefinitely if you cannot fix these bugs/removal of existing features?
Plex was the gold standard in self hosting media and one that people were willing to pay for. If you provide a worse experience and have less features than the free competition (albeit with a lot of tinkering) then the incentive to pay for or use it is gone.
