The new app is not an upgrade. The new interface comes with many cons just for a facelift.
I have been a lifetime pass holder for a few years now. This is absolutely absurd. The new app has so many glitches and disconnects. Why push an update when it was not tested and vetted properly. I’m going to list the problems and bonuses I have noticed.
Cons
-With slow connection the app will frequently end playback and state that my server is offline. A reboot of the app fixed it. It is not my server and this never occurred with the old app.
-On android if you pause and minimize Plex for a few moments even. Once you open it back up it will stop buffering and tell you the server is offline once the buffer window closes. A reboot of the app fixed this. Hitting retry fails every time.
-Plex removed features that were sold to us. This should be illegal. If my server hosts 100% of the content. It’s my internet, it’s my server, it’s my devices. Plex does nothing but design the apps on both sides. Why remove features that cost you nothing to maintain. Unless you hate your customer base.
-Playback tracking is finicky at best. Partly because I believe Plex tracks this data instead of storing it on my server. If you really want to be hands off. Make me store all the data. I know you stealing it anyways but if you can’t be reliable then admit you can’t do it.
Pros
- choosing audio and subtitles prior to opening the player is Easier.
- the app got a nice facelift.

Plex your business model could be much simpler for those of us that don’t use your free TV feature. For those of us who are only using your apps to facilitate access to our personal library you could be more hands off and still make money. Be more like Facebook make the experience seem less and amazing for us while you illegally steal our data for money. Then at least we are happy. As it stands your team 100% pushed an update that degraded the platform. Everyone is begining to notice and these are the early steps of a company dying. But some of us really like your style and have loved it for years. For the sake of us please… Do better and fix your issues. Unless you do this you will continue to get flames and braided in public.
