What a galactically stupid rollout. Plex plass subscription ended. Y’all can’t be trusted.
My tv box is running regular android 11. So update for it is released. And it is a total mess. And i’m not speaking about “new design” itself, which is questionable by himself…
I don’t mind the new look TBH, but there are a lot of bugs to be worked and really should have been ironed out in testing! Big for one me at the moment is the transcoding on downloads for anything with TrueHD 7.1 even with direct play and quality set to original - never happened with the old app and it never caused an issue on the play back device! I some ways, wish there was a way to completely disable all transcoding - at lease the option too!
Here are a few issues I ran into on my Galaxy Tab.
- Subtitles more often than not aren’t working.
- Background on subtitles feature doesn’t work. At all. It sometimes makes subtitles disappear if they decide to work.
- THE ASPECT RATIO IS WRONG ON EVERY MOVIE!!! Every movie is 1:1
- Sometimes there’s no video, just sound.
- Letterbox option is not working.
- No music (You could’ve made the old player better) AND roll out plexamp.
- Couldn’t find watch together feature.
- Organizing libraries is impossible. As soon as you press and hold it immediately scrolls down fast to the bottom. Can’t move it up.
- The app is very unresponsive. It takes way too long when you click on settings before anything happens.
Do I even need to continue??? What was the point in rolling out this huge change when the app CLEARLY was in beta stage?
Server Version#: 1.41.7.9717
Player Version#: 2005.14.0(1037)
iPadOS 18.4.1
iPad Pro (11-inch) (3rd generation)
Updated yesterday, since then app does not recognise physical keyboard arrow keys and space key anymore.
Space key => pause, resume : Not working
Left right key => seeking : Not working
It Works on other streaming apps. Disney, Netflix, max etc.
But the search bar works, you can type in any key words and left right key works find.
What should I do?
Any advises?
Android app version 2025.15.0
Movie downloads don’t work at all. Just sit in waiting state indefinitely. TV episodes do work for downloads so communication is working.
Player logs.
51318509076082.zip (32.7 KB)
Did some more testing, movie files that get stuck in waiting all have EAC3 5.1 Audio tracks. The movies I’m trying to download do play on my device with audio transcoded to OPUS.
Well judging by the number of negative replies here it’s clear this rollout has not been tested properly. And yet you forced this update on us anyway, paying customers.
Well here’s the problem on my phone:
LG V30
All movie/tv/actor posters are blank. The background art does show up however.
Everything works fine on my PC client, and all artwork showed up fine on my phone on the previous Plex app. Server is up to date.
Agreed. The board of directors needs to fire the C-level executives and find some college kids to revert the changes back. Can pay them a fraction for salary and would obviously do a better job.
The rollout was just strange. I am a beta tester and so the old app was in TestFlight all the way through to the public roll out of the new app. But TestFlight remained the old app.
There was the Preview Beta, which I also downloaded, but honestly I thought it was a side project with a much longer timeline. “If they wanted me to really test that newer looking app, surely they would put it through the normal beta channel in TestFlight.” That logic was lost on Plex and I’m baffled as to why.
You would’ve had me and hundreds of others actually testing the new app in TestFlight had you started there and not done the Preview side distraction. I pretty much ignored it, since that was how you presented it.
This whole ‘plan’, if you can call it that, was just fundamentally flawed.
I’ve filed my fair share of bugs for the new app, and I see it getting better, which is good. But this would’ve been much more successful with a more predictable approach to the testing and release.
I finally found a way to resolve the chromecast issue…
Just roll back to the old version. Everything just works!
The new Home Screen on IPad (IOS) is beyond terrible! Zero options to view my own content? A blank screen with buttons to take me to my library, and also a large button that fundamentally takes me to the same place. But no way to say continue watching a show i just was 5 minutes ago?? What is the point of this Home Screen? My options are the generic plex content i will never watch - or a blank screen. Not one useful thing?
Update: You can get your continue watching back, thanks to Pshanew who shared that:
“Long-press (~1.5 seconds) the Libraries icon in the navigation bar at the bottom. Then tap “See All Libraries.” You can “favorite” libraries by tapping the heart to its right. The heart should become solid (it may take a couple of seconds) indicating that it’s a favorite.
The libraries selected should now populate the home screen with their hubs, and contribute to the Continue Watching hub which should be at the top of the screen (the Libraries hub will be immediately beneath it).”
On going bugs with downloads especially with films which have been transcoded due to having TrueHD 7.1 (even though the old app never required that)…keep having to go in an add back to the queue for the download to continue.
Please allow us more functionality with the player. Why remove the ability to lock subtitles to the bottom or top? Why can I no longer watch content at varying speeds? Why are there three buttons at the bottom of my home screen that I never use (LiveTV, On Demand, Browse)?? I get that part of your customer base uses these but why make them mandatory? I instantly remove them from my options whenever I login to a new device! This app update was forced on me when I needed it the least, the app was not perfect before but at least it had the functionality I required to watch my own libraries.
WTF is this Plex? Absolute garbage.
WE DON’T WANT YOUR FAST RUBBISH
Not having received a single word of feedback from Plex team on this, I am adding my new share of bugs of this app and I am quoting the ones from yesterday so that this gets a growing list of my personal problems with this app.
Today in the morning, I watched two episodes of a TV show while being in the bath room.
Remember, I am using a Samsung Galaxy tablet running Android.
Newly discovered problems/bugs/missing features/missing elements:
- I quickly checked but neither on TV show level nor on episode level, I can see ANY critics rating being displayed. Please bring it back. I’ve seen screenshots with IMDB or whatever ratings. I am not seeing any for TV shows/episodes. Did not re-check on movie library.
- First watched episode: I clicked on the “skip intro” button and the app did it, but in addition it paused the episode.
- While watching the same episode I noticed that the in the playback overlay, the watch time of that episode did not progress (but the episode playback was like normal). It always showed the timestamp of 1m08s (and the watch progress bar did not move forward), the end of the episode introduction.
- After finishing viewing that episode, that episode was not marked as being watched but showed that you could continue watching at 1m08s. I marked it as being watched manually which worked.
- In all my player apps, I disabled the “play next episode automatically after 10 seconds”. Is disabling that “feature” permanently still possible? How? Where?
- Watching the next episode did not do the same, it was like normal, so the described behavior is not the same for every episode.
Right next issue…there is no options for logs in advance for settings that I can find?
Another issue…DVR functions don’t work at all!
I have searched for something I want to record and up come all these options, which is overkill btw so click the top one hoping I will get the option to set to record series and then this:
Which I also get when trying to play a live TV stream…and yes I’ve checked, it all works fine on the desktop versions and Nvidia shield.
Another bug, the option to download from the grid is now missing, forcing you to go into the media and download from there…
I get the new look, very much has a plexamp vibe is a great app, solid, looks good etc but this has a feeling of still beta!
I vote, bring back the old one along side this one so we have reliable access while the bugs are smoothed out…we all make mistakes, growth is knowing that, admitting it and doing something positive about it.
I can see it being a good looking app, but it’s just not ready for the masses.
Putting the video decoding on to the device thing the streaming and not the device going to sharing was a flawed idea. My people are going to stream from a device with a battery (limited power supply) and making it to the majority of the work for streaming was a poor choice as the sharing device would usually be connected to mains power and have (relatively) unlimited power. I’m sure there was a reason, but whoever made it didn’t think it through.
I also miss the feature of being able to pick the logo for the app in the IOS. It was a thoughtful quality of live thing and it is disappointing to see it go.
Open Question (as I don’t know it): Does the new experience app include an option to report an issue to the server admin?
And if not, is the whole feature officially dead now? (Plex Team? Anybody?)
Having the same here on a Kindle Fire HD8 Gen 10. 2025.15/14.0 posters are blank. Background shows up fine.
Unfortunately, I’ve just been hit with the latest update across my Android devices, and while I’m not particularly bothered by the visual changes or new library layout, the Live TV experience has taken a major step backwards — and it’s a core part of how I use Plex.
To be blunt, the new Live TV tab breaks the app for me. Here’s what I’m seeing after just 10 minutes of use:
- Severe lag: Most of the time I’m staring at spinning wheels with no clear feedback. The app feels frozen until it decides to catch up.
- Slow guide load times: The EPG takes 10–15 seconds to load. That’s shockingly poor.
- Frequent crashes: The app has already crashed multiple times, forcing me to kill the process manually.
- Wasted screen space: Half of the screen is now occupied by a viewer window — before I’ve even selected anything to watch.
- Favourites are buried: I created favourite channels for quick access. Instead, I’m forced to wait 10–15 seconds for the full list, then another wait to load favourites.
- Clunky recording workflow: Why do I need to load a channel and go full-screen just to find a button to record it?
- Poor mobile experience: On a phone, I don’t want a channel to auto-play. I want to open the app, view the guide, and decide what to do. There should at least be a dedicated EPG view for small screens. On tablets, maybe there’s more flexibility — but even then, that persistent viewer window wastes space.
I understand a lot of work has likely gone into this redesign, and I appreciate the effort from the dev team — but I’m honestly baffled how this passed QA. In its current state, Live TV is practically unusable for me, and I’m now seriously considering alternative platforms to see if they offer a better experience.
