New Experience Public Release Feedback

Casting from new app either iOS device or android device to
a. google chromecast Ultra
b. built-in chromecast of android TV

will NEVER show subtitles of ANY format, be it internal .srt, external .srt or whatever.
It supposedly transcodes them to WEBVTT but they aren’t displayed.
Touching the “CC” button on the app it momentarily flashes orange and nothing happens.

This is still NOT FIXED…!

Casting from old android version, it direct plays .srt with no problems.

Well, this upgrade was just horrible. Change should be something that is done with you, not to you.

I’ve been here a while, and this is not the first (or the second) time I have seen (and tried to help) in threads like this, but I think this is the last - I have moved my media server (out of respect, I won’t mention what to). Its actually easier to do that than change all my clients and update my users - I’ll keep Plex around, but it won’t be the main player until I can actually see that the approach changes and there is some stability in service and function.

how can we roll back?

Sorry, could not resist. There are a few instructive posts for that in this very thread.

iOS app spins indefinitely, I looked into it and it seems the app will not load if “client3.google.com” is blocked on the network. I tried deleting and reinstalling the app and it will not load without access to google.

Not sure if it has been mentioned already seeing as there are 1000+ comments at this point, but I am having an issue with ChromeCast functionality. Specifically I am casting from an iPhone (16 pro) to a google home hub max. It used to work fine, everything I would cast would play. Now I can connect to the hub max via chromecast, and as long as the device is capable of playing the codecs, it works fine. But if for example I try to cast a video that is encoded in h.265, the cast will fail. It seems transcoding is broken on chromecast for this new app. I also attempted to chromecast to a Vizio TV, but that one just got stuck at the plex logo (on the tv) and casting never even attempted to start. Trying to pull some logs, will post when I have something

iOS steps to roll back

Hi,

The experience for downloaded media is awful!
In the normal library you can not start them (eg plane, no network) and in download folder the episodes and movies are a flat list :frowning:

Also other language streams than the app language are not available at least on migrated content - which worked multilingual before.
Sorry to say, but if you releasethe legacy app again - I switch back immediately.

Thx N.

Ty mate, did not think Ios downgrade was possible.
Have to give this a try then.
Do you know if it is possible to upgrade Ios again after turning off app update for Plex?

Because of the huge cluterf**k app caused I was hoping for Plex to do like a 1 month rollback to old app and with an email info to swap back if not possible making swapping experience within app and not satisfied with new app.

It seems like the Plex team has been very quiet this week. No TestFlight updates in over a week. What’s going on?

All the devs are in some sort of company meeting/conference until May 10th. (Kinda stupid decision if you ask me, especially so soon after a go-live with a ton of issues).

I was looking forward to 2025.16.0 today.

My projector just updated to the latest version (I assume) & it’s now broken for me. I now have to use the projector’s mouse mode to navigate around the menus/files. Also when I try to play anything, it won’t play! I get an error about HEVC file format

Interesting new issue today. Watching downloaded items on the London underground. Every time my phone signal came back, the playing video would loop back to where I started it off when I launched the app.

This kept happening throughout multiple journeys. If I let it play for a bit and then his the ‘x’ to close the video, that is the point it would then loop back to.

In the end I turned on flight mode and the video then played for the whole journey with no looping.

Interesting. They released an update for PlexAmp today and buried in the Reddit thread, Elan said that they do not have any plans to release PlexAmp for TVs. So once the New Experience goes public, the only “supported” way to use Music libraries with an audio setup is Airplay or the need to setup a headless copy of PlexAmp.

Hopefully a lot of apologizing and groveling from the execs. Highly doubt it, but I can dream that people learn to be better and own up to their mistakes.

Same here. Here are the basic downgrades I’m seeing from the old app (which worked perfectly fine to me):

  • Why was the shuffle button removed from the playback screen? Why is shuffle only available as an option on the TV show page (versus from what’s Now Playing or anywhere else)?
  • The automatically skip intro/credits is nice, but it seems to break the playback flow and cause loops. What’s going on here?
  • Who thought the rotation lock by default was a good idea?
  • Did the shuffle engine change/break? I’m finding Plex getting stuck repeating the same episodes over. Before, the shuffle wasn’t actually random, but it was usable. Now it’s just not working as intended.
  • Why did you take away custom iOS icons? That was one of my favorite perks!
  • Why am I being forced to choose my library every time I start the app instead of being taken into my last-used library?
  • What changed with finding local network libraries, and why am I and many others getting “Cannot find server” errors when nothing has changed on our servers’ ends?

I’m a lifetime Plex Pass member, and I’ve loved the service. But this iOS update is a bad one, and I’d be very happy with a complete rollback.

That is very disappointing.

I can deal with a new UI, even a bad one. Usually a UI refresh goes a little too far and eventually gets scaled back a bit. Poor UX, you would hope that gets cleaned up faster. Bugs and missing features you would’ve wanted that added in during the beta process, but there’s at least some work being done there. I don’t even necessarily mind the FAST/VOD offerings, but it’s clear that and social are what they really want you to experience. They were prepared (somewhat) and told customers Music and Photos would be in separate apps for mobile well in advance. At least it was there. But to have no replacement of major TV client functionality, that just shows a lack of care and respect.

Clearly we are no longer the customer. We are the product being sold to advertisers, as directed by the venture capitalists, all in the search for more money.

Seeing where this is all going, there’s a future where Plex is not an app in my top row. I’ll be moving my attention to other personal media apps..

I have a few problems with the new app. When my Bluetooth sleep headphones disconnect, the app just keeps playing. If I have autoplay activated, it plays all night long. Which is why I have now disabled autoplay and am forced to use a sleep timer for my phone. Please change this back to the old app so that playback stops as soon as headphones are disconnected. This function is essential for me and one of the most important.

In addition, the UI has become very poor. I can only select films and episodes in portrait mode. If I then play something, it only works in landscape mode and the wrong way round, so that the picture is often upside down. Please make sure you change this. So that you can also watch in portrait mode and if in landscape, that it is also the right way round.
