New Experience Public Release Feedback

How was this allowed to be released to public? The new app is terrible and removes so much capability of the previous version. What is going on at Plex where they think this was acceptable? Is anyone replying to any of the negative feedback? Does anyone actually work at Plex? What a terrible user experience. So much goodwill thrown away due to this.

I am using Infuse for what looks like the duration. I hate the subscription model but it’s cheap and actually works.

I am a project manager and everything Plex has done in this rollout reminds me of the sort of things you learn not to do in training.

Then don’t subscribe. Infuse has a lifetime option and it’s worth every penny. Happy user here. They actually make their app better when they update it, unlike Plex.

Question here, why are you here if your not a happy camper with Plex? Are you on commission on finding Infuse subscribers?

I find it odd you spend so much time here kicking up a storm.

It’s ok to criticize of Plex. Not every poster needs to be a “happy camper” with the state of the app right now.

Why do you feel a need to reply to every post? As I scroll through the forum, you’re in almost every thread.

I’m here to help, not display an uncomfortable environment which some seem intent on doing over and over.

As for replying to every post would be a huge job which I don’t do but normally enter a Discussion to answer queries or offer my experiences to assist.

If your offended by my posts, you can hide me in your account Preferences.

This appears to be the point where [hopefully] another developer can learn by these idiots [plex developers] mistakes. I’m hoping a new alterative will appear. I don’t want to get rid of plex especially scene I paid for the pass. User comment and satisfaction seems to have been removed from their agenda.

How did I miss that? Thank you so much!

  1. I wouldn’t blame the devs, devs are guided by corporate. When a bad building is built, blame the architect, not the guys laying bricks and pipe.
  2. The Plex server itself is still awesome. Since it has a documented API anyone can build alternative client apps that interface with it. For the most part, Plex innovations in the client app have been bad, but not so bad that anyone is motivated to build something else. I think that might change on this update. Plex was originally about library management and enabling streaming on your own content. I think there is a real market for client apps that return this as the app’s central focus.

Thank you for the response vovchyk. Yes Infuse looks very good. I will check out.

Playlists seems to have changed. There doesn’t seem away of restarting a playlist from anything but the first title in the list. if you choose a title further down a list. It just plays that title. then stops.

Ok now it’s my turn since yesterday was the 1st time I got bit by the Plex Experience monster. I normally use Plex one of 3 ways. On my Shields to watch movies or TV shows, on my tablet or laptop in a browser for live TV, or on my phone for movies, TV shows or live TV. My shields are still working fine, and the browser app still works fine, BUT… I had to take the vehicle in for some work and figured I’d watch some TV on my phone while waiting.

No joy. Quite literally.

The Experience took forever to load. Once it did it wouldn’t bring up the guide. So then I figured I’ll just watch a TV show or movie. None of my libraries wouldn’t come up either. I got nothing but a home screen with all of the Plex corporate provided material. No matter what I tried I could not get anything from either of my servers to show up. It was so bad the Experience eventually locked up my phone and I had to reboot it to make it respond again. I had to reboot several times.
Fortunately I was able to revert to the last pre-Experience version and everything is working again just as it always had before the Experience.

IMHO the Experience isn’t even in an Alfa stage much less ready for public release. I am not sure home much money and resources were spent by Plex developing the Experience, but it was a total waste. The experience should be recalled and the last working (pre-experience) app reinstated on Goggle Play’s store.

Concentrate on making the app WORK ie; AC4 sound, more HW transcoding options, quicker responding interface etc…

The Experience release borders on a Bud Lite moment.

You could pin the libs you wanted on the left hand side before.

So with my iphone the new IOS app will initially show a library locally but after a few minutes the library goes offline and then comes back and goes back and forth like this.

I have plex pass and for the most part i cannot use this on my ios devices. Android the library will load but if you try to skip around in content you get errors quite often. I’ve updated the docker containers for my plex servers and i’ve set the local lan subnet but nothing i’ve tried so far has resolved not being able to access the library on IOS 18.4.1

So far this new app is plagued with many many bugs that should have put in some sort of beta preview release channel to work things out before rolling them out to everyone.

Is there any guidance for how the library disappearing can be fixed that is my biggest bug and issue at the moment and very frustrating.

And now you pin them to the Library tab. And yes, you have to open the Library tab (long press), but you also had to tap to open the left hand menu. Again, I’m not seeing how the effort has changed in any significant way.

From my perspective, it is not about effort, but rather intuition. Long pressing a tab, is not intuitive. Do you long press everything in other apps, wondering whether there is a hidden event/feature attached? I wouldn’t have known about long pressing it, unless I read this forum! My less tech savvy household stand no chance, unless I show them. Even if a instruction popup was once displayed, I have already dismissed it for everybody else. Mobile/TV apps shouldn’t require instructions!!!

I have yet to see an official document explaining how to use or configure that app. So, it’s either asking at the forum or finding out by trial’n’error.

This says much about how rushed all this seems.

I am glad, some of the beta users already learned some details of how to use and configure the app. But frankly, while I am happy to see this, it’s not nice to produce shiny blog posts but no real documentation.

One of the learnings of all this should be to keep the documentation ready once you publish newly designed software that people should use.

You didn’t have to tap on the iPad interface. It was always there.

This update is so bad in so many ways.
(Iphone user, lifetime 10y+)

Library does not load faster but slower.
Lots of black screen and slow poster loads.
Lost connection restarts episodes from beginning (that never happened before).
The forced widescreen is just bad.
In floating small window subtitles dont show as before.
Only 3 Seasons is displayed at a time in TV Shows.

Please please please!!!

Rollback old latest update, keep it for a month and send email to everyone to turn of auto update if they wish to rollback.

Then switch back if you still belive you can make a better app experience.
