New Experience Public Release Feedback

I don’t really like the new experience, no poster in detail view etc, but can the Plex team correct bugs ???

One from others:
Playback option > sleep timer
It doesn’t work at all, it just quit and freeze, it doesn’t work.
Before it was working great.

It’s a real shame it’s so bad, the previous version was great, just a few improvements would have been nice

I’ve been around since 2014. They did an about face in 2018/19 with their last UI “upgrade”.

Glad to see it’s helped their modesty. /s

Why hasn’t this pos greedy anti consumer company reverted the pos greedy anti consumer update yet?

This limitation to 4K is not true for me, most of my videos are 1080p MP4 files (H264) and none will download.

ANNNND SSA Subs are broken on Pixel devices again, fixed it for a month and broke it again

I switched to Jellyfin at the end of April when it became clear that Plex doesn’t give a singular ■■■■ about its user base and is happy to gut their company and completely break their entire PMS infrastructure for ad slop so they can go public. I’m actually surprised by how well jellyfin works although it does take a lot more effort to get everything set up in the first place it’s been smooth sailing since then. Free hardware transcoding and a Tailscale or reverse proxy, and you have 99 percent of what plex pass does with complete control and no greedy company hanging over your shoulder ready to break the whole thing and shove their Plexuto TV ad garbage down your throat. Highly recommend at least giving it a try, if any Plex users are still here and have finally had enough.

I looked at you 8 total posts on this thread and you really didn’t say anything that’s actionable.

I didn’t know what you expect Plex to tell you?

Version 2025.18.0 still the same Bugs (everything worked fine in the legacy app):

  • When playing video: 3 dots, Playback Options, Sleep Timmer and Playback Speed goes into a “invisible” menu which you have to pull up from the bottom to see the options
  • Remote Streaming still buffers for a minute and/or lags several times when Settings Video&Audio Direct Play is activated. If only Direct Steam is activated and Direct Play is deactivated everything works fine (different client with new android client, different connection speeds, all type of media)
  • In Library view the last view is not saved, you are always directed to “Recommended” no matter what you chose last time

You can change the default library view in Settings->Experience.

Note that it applies to all libraries though. Haven’t had any issues with it not working for me.

I have noticed that every time the iOS/iPadOS app updates it reverts the setting to Recommended, so it’s may just be a bug.

I’ve mentioned actionable changes in other threads. Everyone else has done a pretty good job of reporting bugs, and frankly, the new app doesn’t deserve the life support it’s getting.

I can’t help but notice how no positive changes are occuring despite the number of complaints. Where’s the communication from Plex, even? It goes both ways you know. Why are you on a forum demanding feedback from other users when we don’t even get scraps of communication from the company we spent money at? I pay them - they don’t pay me.

I and many others mentioned actionable changes in 2019 the last time they did this. They know what the users like and what to fix.

But fine. I want the old app and user interface/user experience restored and officially supported. I kind of thought that would be clear by my negative take on the new app.

I don’t want self-hosters to be treated as second class citizens even if we are.

Now, what’s in this fight for you? Are you working for Plex? Are you another alternative account like what they caught Plex devs doing on the Play Store and Reddit? An honest company wouldn’t have to resort to those tactics.

So the several updates that have been released with additions and bug fixes are not positive changes?

How does the new app treat self-hosters as second class citizens?

I noticed something yesterday as I was hopping around in the new app on Roku. I’d thought it odd that they added Library buttons just under Continue Watching. It didn’t seem to make much sense since they were pretty easy to jump to at the top with the back button on the remote.

I noticed this weekend… that the recommendation hubs for stuff in my library are gone on the Home page, replaced with Plex content offerings only. I still have Continue Watching, and those buttons right below which do take me to my stuff and all the normal recommendation hubs you’d expect to see… but now they feel burried behind their stuff.

This… is why I’m starting to feel second class. Their stuff has become more important than mine.

Are libraries not your content? But if the buttons you’re referring to are the same as in the mobile app then I believe they were added following user feedback. I agree that they don’t make much sense and would like an option to remove them.

Have you tried the same fix as for the mobile apps (disable Plex movies/TV entirely within your account - can be done in Plex Web)?

My home page in the new app is no different to the old app. All my stuff is just as visible as it was previously.

  1. No. It’s still the same terrible UI experience. I don’t care how many fixes they introduce, I will always prefer a UI that makes sense for the number of libraries I have, and the left navigation drawer fits my requirements for that. The new UI and bottom navigation bar does not.
  2. A massive amount of features are missing compared to the original app. This is not how to win my heart or anyone else’s. You reach feature parity and then release.
  3. The new app broke subtitles on Pixel devices. Again. As far as I know it has not been fixed yet. Again, that is.
  4. I still can’t even get past the new experience welcome message on my Android tablet. What did Plex do to make a static welcome screen so unresponsive?

How does the new app treat self-hosters as second class citizens?

If I have to login to an account profile outside of my hosted instance of Plex to turn them off, I’m already a second priority. If I can’t pass those settings down to the family I share my library with, I’m already a second priority. If my content is mixed in with third party content, then I’m already a second priority. If menu items for third party content are shown above or to the left of my content, I’m a second priority.

It’s not hard.

Now, are you going to cherry pick from my response again? Because you left a lot of unanswered points from my original response.

100%. I’ll add that THEIR vision of how we use and see OUR content has changed and is less important to them and they don’t care about us.

Music Videos no longer be accessed or played with the new app, music can no longer be played on tv apps like roku. Those of us who solely use plex as a media management and playback solution are no doubt second class citizens. You have to disable the online content as if your don’t it aggressively placed front and central.

I’d also suggest to just ignore then plex fanboys who just love come on threads like this poke users to get a reaction. Don’t give them the chance, ignore and they’ll go away if no one responds to their clearly passive aggressive provocative post. They are adding nothing to the conversation outside of trying to cause conflict.

No, I’m just going to leave it here. There’s little point in any further discussion when it’s clear that unless Plex reinstate the old app (which I simply can’t see happening) you’re going to be unhappy. If I were in your shoes I’d just go find a different product that better suits my needs and leave Plex behind, but hey you do you.

If Plex refunded my money, I would. But they took my money, broke their product/service, and now they’re going to take my heat as well.

Or you could just not engage with me if you don’t like that.
