New Feature: Albums / Single & EPs / Live Albums

I’ve been an iTunes (now Music) user for about 15 years and I want to make the switch over to Plexamp since I already have the rest of my media on there. Is there any way to download more than 24 hours worth of music to your phone? I know previously you were limited to only 24 hours. I’m hoping this have been expanded.

Hi @ben_levine,

There’s an active feature request for exactly this that I’d recommend upvoting if you’d like to see it. Probably better to put your request there, as it’s not relevant to this thread.

Thanks so much @aubrey.wodonga

If you could that would be great. I’d find it useful.

Cheers

I’ll get to it over the weekend and let you know when it’s done

I find the official Beginner’s Guide a bit too unfriendly for beginners. I think it’s an intimidating wall of text, and not visual enough. I’ll see if I can do better!

I try to edit TVDB, MusicBrainz etc for all my changes but some changes are either preferential or changes that sites like MusicBrainz would not accept, for example I have a lot of custom compilations I’ve made for some artists and those would not be accepted by MusicBrainz, so being able to move these into the “Compilations” row would be amazing.

This is a feature I’ve been looking forward to for ages but having my own complications and official ones mixed between the albums section and the complications section is too weird for me, thankfully as mentioned in this thread, the feature can be disabled until you get the option to pick where an album ends up for now anyway.

Quick edit: Being able to disable grouping on a library level would also be great.

My only problem with this, is that now I have to click the right arrow to show more albums while using Plex for Windows Version 1.33.0.2444-a220eae4 or the Web, please add an option to show all the albums vertically. It seems to happen with Singles & EPs and Soundtracks

Please tell me there’s a setting outside or redoing all the metadata to turn this off. Mines starting to do this automatically and I hate it. I have my metadata set to display albums in chronological order with live albums appearing based on their recording date. Having them separate in the chrono is a massive step back for me and it’s doing it automatically as metadata refreshes…

This isn’t a gift, it’s a f**cking curse to those of us that want to curate our libraries.

Settings > Library on the server. Make sure Show Advanced is enabled.

Thank you!

If I turn on the sonic analysis under EDIT MUSIC>Advanced will it automatically split my library into the these albums/live albums even though I turned off the setting under Settings>Library on the server? A bunch of the features sound cool provded they don’t actually change the library but appear as options on the Recommended page.

No, they are entirely unrelated.

appreciated!

I have a doubt about metadata categories in MusicBrainz. In Plex there are two new categories for albums: type and format. ‘Type’ fits with MusicBrainz “release type” field. But how can I find the metadata tags for album type (meaning Compilation, Live, Remixes, etc)?
Another question, do I need to Plex Dance every single album that I update its album type tag? Or will Plex recognise the change without having to move files out of the server and back in?
Thanks in advance

Album, EP and Single are Primary types. A release group (album) can have a maximum of one Primary type.

Compilation, Live, Remix etc are Secondary types. A release group can have multiple Secondary types.

Available release group types are listed at Release Group / Type - MusicBrainz

After updating MusicBrainz for a release or release group Refresh Metadata in Plex should suffice without the need to do the Plex Dance, but there may be a delay depending on the nature of your edits, whether voting is required and whether there is any caching involved.

What do you mean by that?

No.

  1. If there is a meta tag which can store the release type, Plex is not reading it.
  2. you can only change a release type over on musicbrainz.org
It takes several days for the change to be either accepted by the musicbrainz community (or not).
After that it takes another several days until the change is synced to the plex metadata servers. Once this is completed, you only need a “Refresh Metadata” in Plex.

Thank you very much! That was very helpful

With type and format i meant the two new filters in the music library by the Album section. The filter ‘Type’ includes Compilation, Dj Mix, Live, etc while ‘Format’ contains 4 categories: Album, EP, Single and Broadcast. I got quite confused by these two categories being apart at the beginning. Now I get how it works, so thank you for the practical information! As a suggestion, I think a release note with a few explanations on how to operate this new feature would be of great use for the community.

I point out that in Android Auto albums indexed as “compilations” are not listed.
Just disable the feature on the server to fix
