I´m getting de same issue with newer versions of Plex on Apple TV 4 Gen.
I´ve got it solved out when I switched to the “Old Video Player” on Plex APP Settings.
I looks to me the “New Player” still have issues with subtitles, It doesn´t sync up with the Apple TV subttiles settings, like “Old Video Player” does.
I believe you’re talking about different issues.
The OP is about the font-size of the main navigation menu – not subtitles or the new vs. old player.
You´re right.
I misunderstood.
Yes, the Menu fonts not subtitles…is this a bug or…?
Seeing this too. Hoping it’s just a bug.
Noticed this as well when I updated my Bedroom Apple TV, haven’t done the living room yet. I will also add that there seems to be a huge version number gap- the previous versions were 2.18, now it’s version 7? Why the huge version number jump?? What is actually new in this release- the new UI design was not mentioned in the release notes.
Was there any specific or technical reason for this besides the aesthetics of having a release number be the same for the Brand/OS platform?
To me this means having better transparency which features should be available in both platforms (iOS, tvOS) without having to double-check the release announcements every time to confirm a feature in Plex for tvOS 2.17 is also in Plex for iOS 6.12 etc.
In the end, they could also call their releases like UK counties, types of grapes or give them cat names
Got it, thank you for the explanation.
I’ll be honest, even though tvOS and iOS are practically the same codebase and very similar development wise with how Apple handles things. I don’t think the general public understands this or honestly cares- they see them as two independent apps that are seperate of each other. So from that perspective, it’s okay and it makes sense to have a different version structure.
If Plex wants to do something like this in favor of having better transparency then it would also be transparent of you to include a note regarding this in the release notes on “versioning restructuring” so it doesn’t freak some of us out who look at every release announcement. tvOS is my primary Plex Player (Live TV/DVR, everyday) so I thought I was missing something huge.
Thanks!
Thanks for your feedback!
I’m struggling to read the text now when browsing from the sofa. Have to stand up and go closer to the TV to read it properly now.
AppleTV Gen4 here, they really do need to return this back to normal.
I can still read it at my distance, but it is more difficult and it pretty ugly.
Indeed…but I can only hear crickets from the Plex people (as usual)…is it a bug? New design? I really, really want the old font…
It’s an updated design, to give more space to more items in the sidebar, and more space for content on the right
Really…I know these things are subjective, but I really don’t like the font (looks like an old PC front end or Android), no design, not Apple standard for sure and it’s definitely too small… it’s supposed to be a stilish TV front end UI, not a blowout, low quality font…that decision must have come from a developer with no regard to how the UI looks like, which is the AppleTV value prop…all about design…
Is it too hard to give the two options, new or old font…? Please…
It uses the same font as it always has, just at a smaller size. The size and readability should be at least comparable to something like Netflix or Disney+.
Problem is, it makes the interface nearly unusable if you sitting any kind of distance away. This should be a 10foot interface not a 5 foot. Not to mention how ugly and unfinished the new design is.
The font is so small for the source under the heading I would have to standup and walk over to read it. The menu only takes up half my screen the res is blank and it’s so small it’s uncomfortable to use.
Basically it seems like if I need to continue with Plex, I’d be forced to buy a larger TV just to not have to struggle with using the software.
This isn’t an improvement and I would like it to be fixed.
