New IOS app is big step BACKWARDS

Updated today to the new iOS app, but it’s horrible.
Here’s a list of issues found SO FAR;

  • downloads are shown only 1 by 1 instead of the ability to view them in a “library” kind of overview.
  • downloads are not even sorted by episode. Would need to go through all 1 by 1, to find them randomly scattered.
  • You can’t download series anymore as e.g last 5 unseen episodes but only go in the the season (and download all episodes of that season) or into each episode and download each separately.
  • When you’ve downloaded a whole season, you can only delete each episode 1 by 1.
  • Your forces to use other app for music, while before you could use Plexamp, but could also use the regular plex app.
  • Settings in the “downloads” next to the “in progress” is just a copy of the download part in the “ settings” that is above the “switch profile” on the top right corner.
  • When starting the new app for the first time, it suggest you can modify the view, but you really can’t; you can only add your library. But I want to remove eg the on demand stuff. Not interested in 300 year old crap movies.
  • The “ libraries” part between “continue watching” and “recently add in …” on the “ home tab” is completely useless and just a nuance.

I agree, i use the downloads feature constantly - the new layout is terrible. I hope they fix it.

There is a sort by title option.

Agree with all the rest. I use downloads all the time and this is not a good experience currently.

Agree. It is trash. Please revert back to old version until you really fix this. STOP giving us VISUAL improvements, we don’t really care about that…we’d rather see functional improvements over visual improvements.

Completely agree. This is a horrible update. Downloads are unusable. Realised I got new app while on my commute and had bad experience with the app.

It somehow has marked all my downloads as “migrated”. They are shown in random order.

When I play, video keeps restarting to the beginning at random points!! Also, the slider to skip/jump to a point on the video does not work. Best you can do is skip 30 seconds forward only!!

This is not a good start. Reminds me of the downloads feature debacle when they changed it.

Agree, I used PlexTV to listen to music but now I have to go to the Plexamp app, which is just sh… Bring back PlexTV for music please!

The app has become almost unusable due to its broken functionality, and unintuitive and confusing new design.

Double-tapping the screen used to let me quickly zoom in
A feature that’s so useful when you have your device a small distance away. Now, I have to awkwardly dig through menus to change the view format, and then requires me to dig through the same menu again, if I want to change it back. It then also retains that choice for any other videos you choose following it.

What happened to the simple double-tap to zoom in and out?

Navigating my library has also become frustratingly difficult.
The new interface is poorly designed, and it feels like the developers don’t understand basic user experience principles. Standard iOS gestures are missing, making the app feel out of place with the user experience stepped back by at least 60%.

Downloads are broken.
I can’t download movies from my server to my iPhone since this update. And Movies I previously had downloaded are partially appearing, making the others pre-downloaded inaccessible, taking up space on my phone but not showing up in the app. I have no idea if they’ve been deleted or are just invisible.

Watch Together:
And let’s not forget the removal of “Watch Together”-a feature many really enjoyed and miss. Why only make it available via the Web Interface? It makes no sense.

PLEX, what happened? This update has made Plex so much worse in many ways. I can’t believe the team behind this feels this is an Upgrade - the only thing upgraded was the pricing structure. They think if they can give a splashy poster to make it look “updated” they can justify hiking the costs up. Instead what they’ve done is negatively impacted the app in every way - and most importantly, destroyed the user experience they had built for their users.

Please bring back the features and usability we loved!

Get a new design team who know about User Experience, and bring back the logical layout that the app once had - not this mess of a thing that you need a map for and waste time having to dig through to find (or not find) what you’re looking for.

So disappointed.

I would rather have the app look like a turd, but function well than this “sleek, ,sexy” app.

Wake up Plex, most users are not the gen Z or alpha that demand visual appeal over functionality. From an older Gen Xer.

-AFAIK, this version doesn’t allow you to see as before your own plex media server favorite channels in the guide along with your plex channels.
-When you select ‘Live TV’ you have to now chose a live TV source: either your own plex server channels OR the plex channels! Not combined as the previous version.
-When you select a recording that has already started, You’re not shown as before: do you want to play this recording from the start or live? Any longer - you’re just shown the live programming and will have to scroll back to the start of the recording if you want that.
-Also it’s glitchy: when in live TV, I see a small preview of the live channel with a mute speaker icon BUT the sound is not muted! I have to tap the icon changing the symbol to an unmuted speaker then tap it again to mute it for real!
-In the favorites section of my plex server in the guide, all are missing now. They all say “This channel is no longer available”.

Why did they force this UI change on us with no option to switch back? I was desperately search for a switch to previous theme or view or UI option!

Who thought this was a good idea? All of Plex’s ad-supported streaming is now front and center with no way to disable it and those of us that have server content have been pushed to the side as an afterthought. Please fix this.

The only people who thought this was a good idea are the insiders trying to tear the company down. They want an app with little to no functionality so they can work less during their day to day. I can’t think of any other possible reason they would do this, and many people are saying this is a massive disgrace.

Adding in case someone from Plex is tracking functionality that is now missing (or obscured), that customers want. I used the library shuffle playback feature all the time. It looks like that has been removed. Please add it back, or let me know how to do this now if it’s there.

100% insane that they removed this, I have so many TV shows for my kids, I used to go to the TV library, and simply shuffle all the shows, so they are watching a tv-like experience, now its gone from the iPhone app!

The app also stops in between episodes and then keeps the screen on indefinately and the sleep option is temperamental. Not useful if you fall asleep watching something. Honestly I am a little surprised at this update. Plex usually makes small subtle changes and improvements. The old app was just about perfect. I wish I never updated.

The new app is unusable. And the fact that it broke by self updating and now I have to figure out why it claims my server is out of date (even thought it’s v4+) is exhausting. Plex really messed this up bad. Just move us all back to the old app and say “Sorry” before you become the new Sonos.

I am struggling with the new app as well…was watching a movie an the new app can barley stream 480p. I had to revert to 320…which is pretty much unwatchable. Please fix this. I am so disappointed. I am okay with a price hike…that is to be expected. But you can’t charge more then reduce quality…that is totally unacceptable.

This is the same for me and it’s on adroid as well as ios. Totally trashed my downloads. Everything is migrated and the slider no longer works to the only way to skip forward is tk hit the 10 second jump. How was this tested?

Seriously? I’ve been a paying Plex user for years, but I think it’s time to go. The new app is truly awful.
