New iOS Plex experience - tv guide

The new pvr television guide is almost unusable.

  • guide space is cramped, limited, non configurable and slow
  • half the screen taken up by channel preview.
  • Channel preview is very slow to start (10 seconds+)
  • Channel preview takes up a TV tuner
  • Channel preview is against accessibility guidelines for neurodivergent users
  • Channel preview cannot be disabled via settings

Unbelievably poor release.

Hi, I have Plex Media Server and I configured a dvr. With old version of app (android & iOS) I can see TV Online, guide and channels icons, after update the app, I can’t see the icons and the app spend a lot of time to load the TV guide.

Regards.

To add - I had a failed recording last night as my TV tuner was being used to display the (unwanted) preview while I was looking around the guide. This needs to be configurable.

For me, the new iOS app will not display the guide. All channels show as “unknown airing”. The guide renders correctly in other apps and the web.

Additionally, when selecting a channel that is currently recording, playback always starts from the beginning. There’s no option to jump directly to live view as there is in other apps.

For me the guide also just says unknown airing. Works fine in other apps, just not the new iOS.

Another problem with the guide on iOs is it only provides a few hours of information.

My server has several days of guide information.
I have logged out of the app. Reinstalled the app. Logged back into the app. Same problem.

Live TV recording via the app is now useless and frustrating.

I’m wondering if the new iOS app isn’t recognizing lifetime membership? The app guide only provides a few hours of guide data.
The same as a locked app where the $4.95 fee wasn’t paid to unlock the app?

I do not see a way to unlock the app for several days of guide information! It seems to recognize my lifetime membership but only provides a few hour information.

App has been removed and reinstalled. Running the latest version 2025.13.0 (1025)

I also noticed the guide data available is only a few hours after refreshing the guide. If the refresh takes place at 03:00 guide data ends around 09:00 Refreshing at 16:00 provides guide data through 23:00 1/4 of the day after it was refreshed.

Same here with only a few hours of Guide info.

This has got to be a joke, right?

They thought this app was acceptable to release?!?!

For some strange reason, the OTA seems to vary in function. Sometimes, it will show about 7 hours of guide but never indicating “new” airings or scheduled recordings. Other times, it shows nothing at all. Either way, it’s useless. I have feeling they are just providing the PSIP info from the broadcasters when they show any guide at all which is useless, instead of the true OTA guide from the server, but that’s just a guess. Break the iOS app, don’t provide a rollback, raise the price for a pass. Not a great optic. I am a recent lifetime pass purchaser.

Current server and iOS app update as of 04-12. TV guide is not functional. Shows a couple of hours of shows the tv guide but advancing it a couple of hours it stays blank and same if moving to a new day. Cannot see DVR schedule which I understand may be coming in a new update.

I know it will not happen, but it’d be much better to put this back in beta in allow to download the old app and until the bugs are worked out, this is what makes people frustrated with Plex.

  • you can no longer scroll quickly round the guide by dragging your finger. You have to click on very small navigation buttons which are ill placed and very very slow.

The more I use the new app, and get used to it, the more I like it. But the bugs! It’s amazing this got released to public like it is, every time I use it I find more bugs. Roll back to the old app until most of the bugs get taken care of and do a new release, please!

Now the new bugs I found today: for live TV it doesn’t auto play which is a big improvement. I have the mute button in the top left which is set to muted, but it doesn’t work until I unmute and mute again. The favorites button is very sluggish and I end up pressing it several times, or perhaps it requires several presses? After I go to favorites the guide switches like it should, but everything is grayed out and I can’t select/play anything. It shows up, but I can’t watch it. When I go back to the normal guide view it works again.

Like someone else said, you can’t scroll through the guide by scrolling with your finger anymore and have to use the little button at the top which is very annoying and the guide only shows a few hours of content. If I select another date it doesn’t actually show any content for that date, this is an improvement from the original release which didn’t show anything at all.

The Dolby Vision filter button is there, but doesn’t do anything.

@plex any update on if this is being worked on? Currently I can’t browse the TV guide without my TV tuner being used, which results in no recording being possible! That’s ridiculous.

  • upcoming recordings can no longer be viewed, edited or deleted
  • DVR recording status is not indicated
  • Recording priority can no longer be adjusted

Is someone from Plex able to acknowledge these issues are known about, and where they are on the fix priority list?

They’ve admitted DVR management tools are coming in the future. I don’t think they’re going to reveal when or what the priority is.

They purposely rushed this app update out the door knowing it lacked critical features.

Six weeks later and nothing has been addressed, or even responded to.

Agreed. Glad that I’m using ChannelsDVR as my primary method of playing live TV (also all my media libraries).

Yeah what’s funny is Channels doesn’t have any issues playing DOVI content or anything else I throw at it.

I actually switched from Plex to Channels for local media playback as Plex would frame skip every minute or so. It was so distracting! DV playback is so smooth with Channels.

It’s not May 30th and live TV for iOS has not been fixed or even commented on as far as I know by Plex.

I like how AMD Has been doing for a while now, when they released driver updates for video cards, they added a known issues area where they say we know this is not working and we are going to fix it. Sometimes they even have an ETA listed for known issues.

I think it would go a long way if Plex, who is generally horrible at communicating with its customers, did something similar.

Still not a single one of these critical issues has been addressed.
