This new iphone app locks up frequently, it only shows tv and movie libraries and there is no way that I can find to add a new library.
What exactly do you mean?
You couldn’t create/manage libraries from the mobile apps before… so at least this isn’t new.
the point here is that the new app isn’t showing all of the available libraries that were shown with the older app. Music and Photos are not listed and there isn’t a way to add/search for the missing libraries.
Plex has introduced dedicated apps focused on audio and photo playback / presentation. Plexamp has actually been around for several years and way initially restricted to Plex Pass members.

The media is still managed and organized in one place – your Plex Media Server.
But instead of squeezing it all in the same form, you now have dedicated apps optimized for the different media kinds (audio, video, photos).
Different media kinds have different use cases and ways how you interact with them.
From that perspective, treating them differently according to that makes sense.
