Updated Plex app for iOS is a total disaster

The updated app does not show me my music libraries. Where are my music libraries?

The updated app does not show me my photo libraries. Where are my photo libraries?

Navigation is a disaster.

It constantly asks which user I am.

I wish I never updated this app.

UPDATE #1:

I’ve been a Plex user and Plex Pass subscriber for probably 10 years. Now, for the first time ever, I’ve installed Jellyfin on my server and Infuse on my AppleTV. It’s not a particularly seamless install, as I’m working through some setup issues. I’ll post a 2nd update when I see how well this works.

From the related announcement.
TL;DR: you should use Plexamp for music libraries. It’s dedicated to and much more focused on music when it comes to displaying your content and playback.

will plexamp come for apple tv ?
or how else can I play my music on TV ?
Im one of those who don’t have a stereo anymore in the living room, I just have a TV and apple tv connected to it and a good sound system connected to those.

Same here… question has been raised several times since Plex announced they’ll transition to this new approach. Sadly no conclusive response yet.

Plex needs to pull its head out of its rear and right this painfully stupid decision. I do not want any more additional freaking apps. I want my music and my photos in my Plex library where they have been useful for years.

This change is just beyond stupid… I’m so sick of the OCD app updating culture everything has become. Ruining perfectly good functionality constantly. The app was working great and then some useful idiot decides you need 3 apps to do the same thing one app was doing fine for decades. I don’t even see any good logical reason explained for doing this. What a mess….

Have to agree. Trying to explain what just happened to family members that had auto updated to the new Plex App has been…no fun. Improving the handling of music and audiobooks within Plex makes much more sense to me. Instead, extra apps that do nothing extra. Swing and a miss–Put them back into Plex, please.

You should give Plexamp a closer look… there’s lots of features beyond those previously available in the main app, e.g.

  • making much more extensive use of sonic analysis with automatic channels, sonic adventures…
  • Guest DJs to expand what‘s playing
  • sweet fades
  • AI integration option
  • better gapless playback
  • option for bit-perfect playback on many platforms

I‘m not saying you must love it or you’ll use all of them right away… but your point implies you didn’t look hard (or were too busy to notice).

You could be right. I should have added “extra for me.” My experience with Plexamp was the extras weren’t things I needed or really cared about. Now what I really like is sweet integration within one Plex app for both myself and my users. Not saying everyone should like that, some like multiple apps for different media delivery, I just disagree.

Keep me posted on Jellyfin install.

PlexAmp indeed is a really good music app and the developer is super responsive to reviews, including my rather pissy one which I tempered a bit in response. I just don’t really need this app as I’m already paying for another subscription service that hosts my personal music library.

What I do need is for music to stay right where it is as I’ve set up drives and servers for multiple family members and friends who are at a loss over these recent changes, and being out of state I can’t help them except as over-the-phone tech support.

Plexamp for iOS does not work for me. I sign-in the wheel spins and then say

“No music library found. Plexamp requires access to a a Plex Media Server, but we can’t reach any right now”

It so happens that I do have a Plex Media server running and can access it via a web browser and play music from the one and only library contained in PMS!

I guess Plex has taken a page from SONOS’ playbook. Release buggy software that ruins a perfectly functioning ecosystem and take your sweet time fixing things.

Are you on the same network?
When you mention you can access the server/library from a web browser… is that on the same iOS device?

Yeah, this is pretty pathetic, I updated today, thinking maybe my problem was fixed..now my libraries won’t display any content….. it’s just “hourglasses”. Man, as one of my drill sergeant’s would say, Plex can “f$#k up a f$#k up” I mean jeez louise what kind or sub morons are coding for you guys?

iPhone 11 (iOS 18.4.1) plex app 2025.14 still suffering the buffering issue.
The video will play for like 2 minutes and then stuck in buffering when streaming locally.
Computer browser web player and ShieldTV plex app don’t have this problem though.

I hope this get fixed soon.

Thanks for the response.

Yes. Both the PMS and the iPhone are the same network, 192.168.1.0/24. If I connect to PMS from the phone’s web browser I can see my library and playlists and I can play tracks.

With the new update I am no longer able to download anything on my app. I have been able to do it previously and can’t find the button for downloading anywhere :frowning:

It is only available from a Season. Go to a TV show Library, select the show, go to Season and from there Downloads are available by Season or Episode.

Pretty sure they are deliberately driving lifetime plex pass users away. I mean, we don’t generate any sweet, sweet revenue, how will they go public and cash out with all these lampreys dragging the numbers down?

I could not agree more
I have used plex for a Big library of Music Photos films and TV
Plus all the other things you Can use it for
For me it was 13 great years but this is just like shooting on your own two feet
Les than a month ago I signed up for a lifetime pass
I now regret that Big time because I think the new solutions are
5-10 times going down the ladder
Maybe a compeeting Company has planted a trojan horse employer in ,what used to be, a wonderfull plex expirience
Sorry to see you go but I have lost interence
To end on a more positive note I would Gladly pay a fee if it is posible to get my old “Expirience “ back
Is that a possibility?
