New library location not seeing files

Hi there - I had one music location on the hard drive of my media server (plus one for each of TV Shows and Movies) but the hard drive was starting to get full so I added an external hard drive to the server.

I added the new location (a folder called “Music (Ext)”) to the Music library and put some new music in there (one folder with the name of the artist containing multiple folders with the name of the albums - perfectly usual)

The Music (Ext) library appears in all players I use, but it is empty. The server will not show the music I added to that new library on the external hard drive. And I have run Sync Library multiple times.

Any suggestions as to why that would be are much appreciated.

I suggest you start by checking the owner and permission “Music (Ext)” directory and the sub-directories. If the user the Plex Media Server runs as doesn’t have access to the parent directory and the sub-directories it wouldn’t be able to add the files to the Music library.

When you get the problem corrected you can add the folder to your existing music library. There’s no need to have a separate library unless that’s what you want.
