New Linux installer - Forum preview & beta testing

We will post here when this lands in our regular releases.

Hi - looking forward for this to make it onto the regular release!

I assume it’s not on the 1.16.5.1554-1e5ff713d currently available for download correct?

No. It’s not.

Current status is:

  1. Transcoder Preview testing is working through now.
  2. When engineering pushes one button (literally), it becomes default.

Hi … still not on the latest 1.17.0.1709-982421575 from September 14, 2019?

I know. It keeps getting bumped.

Although, in this case, waiting until after the transcoder update was expected. That would have been too many changes in flight at the same time.

1.17.0 - Transcoder update
1.17.1-2-3 (?) - Settle the Transcoder
Next add the new packaging.

It’s sitting there and YES we discuss it every third day . I make certain of that :smiling_imp:

Docker information

When installing using the supported method, packing now correctly detects and handles docker containers.

Below is a clip from running in a Docker container on a NAS.
Please notice the installer knows to skip that which has already been validated by the container itself.

root@NAS:/# dpkg -i /tmp/pms.deb

Hey thanks - running the latest 1.17.0… now - only 1 super-minor thing i noticed. After I installed it the service didn’t restore the prev. state - it was running before the update but i had to manually start it after. I believe this hadn’t happened before. It’s not an issue really but thought i’d point it out.

Thanks for reporting. Nothing in the packaging (installer) itself changed.
All I did was reapply the same packaging routines to the new binary

Can you tell me the details of the distro, version, and init or systemd ?

Sorry missed your reply - i’m on an old debian 7 wheezy (init.d).

I will look into it. It might be the old notification mechanism. I’m not sure how much is to be gained given the age.

This packaging is init.d/systemd sensitive. It has restored state on everything I’ve tested.
I will retest against my Debian 7 VM

I I see plex is yelling at me about a new version, will we get it here as well?

What I am doing here is independent of what the Plex/web is telling you.

This effort here is just to make certain that the new installation and configuration tools I’ve written work for everyone under every testable condition.

Once Engineering releases it to formal production, what you see here will be the new normal.

Has engineering accepted this in their production code yet? Just want to keep the squeaky wheel squeaking.

Yeah, would like to update and get the latest bugs. I mean, features.

Hi Chuck,

Can we get a new update if you have time. I changed my physical folder layout and I’m seeing a lot of slow transactions in the database and error parsing XML. Not sure if something is wrong with the older version I’m running or not.

I’ve rebuilt the database (export/import), cleared bundles, did the media shuffle routine, etc.

The security team just reviewed it (something I didn’t know is part of the new process but glad it is).

They found a couple things which I fixed today and now waiting for their approval.

TO ALL:

The new Debian installer has passed all reviews and now made its way into mainstream PMS distribution.

Please look for it.

I will open a forum thread and pin it to the top of the Linux forum when I have confirmation of the PMS release version.
