Hi I’m about to purchase a new Mac mini and run plex server from it as I have done on my 2012 Mac mini.
I don’t know what is more important more ram going forward or processing power ?.
I can get the basis max mini and up the ram to 24 gb
Or get the faster Mac mini pro with 16 gb ram I intend to keep this new Mac mini for as long as possible.
My current one is i7 with 8gb ram but is now over 10 years old.
I’m also using a 2012 Mac mini. Mine is i5 with 12GB RAM and has been great for the past 5 years running Plex. I don’t have a ton of devices, and likely up to 3 steams at a time at most. I’m thinking of getting the new M2 mini but only the 8gb ram. All my media is on a WD 14gb external HD. I saw some older threads from last year that the M1 version of Plex server is beta, but couldn’t find any updates about it, or wether or no the M2 will work for that version. My system works fine as is, but my Mac is pretty old and Im afraid it’s gonna burn out anytime, that’s the only reason I want to upgrade. I’m hoping this is enough for my use, and semi future proof… looks like I’ll just go for it and report back on how its working.
