New Mac with new HD. Plex server won't recognize the folders with the media in them

I recently got a new (to me) iMac. ive set up and run Plex server at least 10 times before, never had a single problem. I finally decided to use an external SSD as my start up drive. My PLEX media library is also on an external drive (always has been, same library that ive used on 3 different machines) but now PLEX server doesn’t see the media or the sub folders. I can’t add my library to the server. if I plug the same library (external) into my Mac mini, it works fine, but on new Mac it won’t see the files or folders. I even changed permissions not he drive to read and write all, and that didn’t help. PLEX won’t even see the sub folders on the main drive. and if I type the path it, it doesn’t make a difference. This is super weird, because if I start up on the internal drive, that PLEX server works. Any help?

Server Version#: Version 4.76.1
Player Version#:

what filesystem are the external drives running?

what do the Server Logs say?

are you sure the Mac is mounting the external drives to the same location every time? (sometimes Mac’s don’t)

Have any of the prior machines you have used these drives on been Macs? What have they been?

It’s also worth looking into your Mac’s system settings (security > privacy); making sure the Plex Media Server app is authorized to access that type of drive / volume.

thank you both. I granted access, (I could see the folders now) now I am completely uninstalling and rebooting. will let you know after I reinstall. not sure why this is doing this on this iteration of my machine… really strange.

fixed. thank you both! I don’t know why the previous exactly the same install on a different volume didn’t restrict access. but now its working. thank you both again!

thank you for your help! it was restricted access to the volume
