New matching agent and nfos

This is just to clarify before starting.

I am rebuilding my server with new hardware - and will also be setting it all up from scratch, thus generating a new database.

I have both movies and tv series, have I understood correctly that It will automatically match if I include a. nfo containing imdb \ themoviedb etc link?

e.g. I made this .nfo file for \TV\American Dad
American.Dad.nfo

https://thetvdb.com/series/american-dad/
THETVDB.COM SERIES ID73141
American Dad! (TV Series 2005- ) — The Movie Database (TMDb)
American Dad! (TV Series 2005– ) - IMDb

edit: Seems links were converted to page titles in plex forum- but it contains the http links.

For series, I assume I only need a .nfo for the show itself, and not for every season?

Is there a naming scheme I have to follow for the .nfo files in order for this to work perfectly?

.nfo’s are only supported with movies.

AFAIK, only IMDb ID’s are taken from .nfo files.
If you want to include TMDB ID’s you better include them in the folder name (only if you use one subfolder per movie).
The syntax for that is documented here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-movie-media-files#toc-0

The new tv show scanner which supports TheTVDB and TMDB ID “hints” is currently only in alpha testing and not recommended for production use. It is still missing some features.

On a side note, for local media assets such as posters.

Is there any way I can have the show name in the .jpg file name to avoid having numerous poster.jpg’s? e.g. Show.name-poster.jpg , Show.name-Season01.jpg etc

Only the variants laid out in here are recognized: Local Media Assets - TV Shows | Plex Support
