New app

Ok maybe this has been talked about ad naseum but who asked for this new app and or who is it for? So far it’s harder to use, and plexamp is a joke- Plex just basically made my main use of the service (streaming audio) impossible. Great work team!

How so? It has a far more extensive featue set than the regular old mobile app.

It doesn’t connect or even load properly or reliably on an iPhone 15 pro. Pretty tough to use “extensive new features” when the app doesn’t even load. Bravo.

If you would be willing to work with the developers, please fetch the plexamp logs and please describe what you mean by “load properly or reliably on an iPhone 15 pro” with a bit more detail in a new thread in here: https://forums.plex.tv/c/plex-labs/16

Why would I work with the devs who took away the features I, a paying customer, value? Why does your update force me to spend time making sure the new app I didn’t ask for is functional for you? I’d rather spend the time looking for solutions to transfer away from Plex. I don’t want the new app, I liked the app as it existed and that is what I want. I want all of my media in the same place, with the interface I am used to. At a minimum the new apps you’re forcing users into should work great- instead Plexamp boots to a blank screen and nothing happens. You guys blew it, the sooner you can admit and fix the less damage will be done to your customer base.

Unsolicited new android app and now I can’t see my libraries either on my lan or remotely. Yet again I’ll have to reinstall everything, log out and in and generally mess about trying to make it work. Shame Plex developers . I can understand the commercial push to Separate functions into 3 apps but WE don’t want it. All we want is a stable app that connects us to OUR media as well as theirs. Plex pass seems to have been a bad buy

Live TV is no longer working. I have an OTA and now the channels won’t play!!! The only channels I get are the Plex channels which do me no good since I need my local channels. Please let me know how to rectify this or is there an option to have the old app back until this issue gets sorted?

Agreed; Plexamp not intuitive as the old app. The new app that deal exclusively with streaming video is a major let down for those who have and will continue to use Plex for the intended and original main use of the service (streaming audio).

Plexamp works fine. I have been using it for ages for streaming music as have many others. IT’s actually a very good music streaming player and allows you to cache ahead quite a few tracks so you don’t find your music stoping when you are on the underground/metro etc. You can also download music for offline listening, create dynamic playlists or AI playlists etc. If you are having issues with Plexamp displaying anything then it is likely an issue with your configuration/settings.

I did not ask for and do not want it. Tried to use it last night and it sucked. Could not fast forward in a show by double tapping anymore. Could not find the setting to stream at a lower rate. I have to choose what rate to stream at instead of setting it to automatically stream at a lower rate when connection isn’t strong enough.

If the app I don’t want and didn’t ask for doesn’t load on a currently updated iPhone 15 pro after a fresh install, what settings should I change? Or did maybe the developers blow it? I don’t want dynamic or AI playlists- I am capable of making a playlist. The last app allowed downloads and cached just fine. It also worked properly. The new main app doesn’t load my libraries anymore. Don’t defend bad and embarrassing moves by bozos or you end up donning the red nose yourself.

So it doesn’t work for you but works for everyone else but it must be the app developers fault?

Here’s a thought, rather than forcing this new app on PlexPass members, give us an option to use the legacy app…at least until all the bugs are worked out of the new one. Truthfully it’s unexecusable that you release a new pricing structure followed up by releasing a new app that’s buggy and with limited functionality…especially to those that have already paid and supported this project for years!!!

Yeah I think it is far too buggy to be a release, much more of a beta product still.

It works for everyone else? Did you search for “Plexamp issues?” But yeah, when a developer forces you to use a new app for the service you pay for it should function with minimal hassle on a properly updated vanilla device. I know, call me crazy. Honk honk.

why remove the ability to play music through the app??? makes no sense at all, well done plex, what a total ■■■■ up

Some of the missing features include, but are not limited to, the ability to cast at all and the ability to change tabs or scroll in less than a minute. Really thinking the quality control on the new version of Plex for Android was outsourced to ChatGPT with no human interaction involved.

Did Plex make any attempt in the client, or via the onboarding, to alert customers that Plexamp is available now for Music and it had moved? I don’t remember this happening?

Just dumping features from a client without a little pop-up that offers the new client, is just bad customer engagement and experience.

Expecting customers to read emails or go to forums, for core UX engagement pathways is below any standard that I’ve seen.

Beta implies that it’s ready for human audiences with only minor kinks to work out. Playing media and casting it to a TV are basically the only two things Plex is supposed to do, and the new version can’t do either of these things.
