Currenlty we have the following options for library seasons:
- Show
- Hide
- Hide for single-season series
These work great in most instances (Mini-Series or shows that only have one season). BUT…there are times when the only season I have of a show is say for example season 15. This gets confusing to my friends a lot of times because they do not understand that the one season showing up is season 15 and not season 1 (or another season). In fact, there is no clear indicator as to which season they are actually browsing.
I would love to see a new option, “Hide if not in a season folder”. So that I could stick mini-series in the main show directory and all other shows in a season folders, thus hopefully preventing less confusion amongst my friends.
For example:
TV Shows/Band of Brothers/Band Of Brothers S01E01 (WOULD NOT show seasons).
TV Shows/Band of Brothers/Season 1/Band Of Brothers S01E01 (WOULD show seasons).
TV Shows/ Criminal Minds/Season 15/Criminal Minds S15E01 (WOULD show seasons).
See the current problem? If I use the current setting of “Hide for single-season series” and the only season of Criminal Minds that I have is Season 15…friends get super confused, as to which season of Criminal Minds I actually have. The only indicator (on web interface) is the little On Deck but under the poster. I think some clients don’t even show this much. Even when you click on an episode there is no indicator as to which season the episode is from. GREAT for mini-series or shows with only 1 season…not so great for multi-season shows in where you only have one season (not being season one).
I know for us seasoned Plex users we understand the way it currently works but for noobs or some of the friends we share with they just don’t get it.
I hope this makes sense and gets some votes! Should be pretty easy for Plex to implement on a future release.
FYI, You can override the library setting for individual shows.
Edit the show (hover over show, choose pencil in lower left corner)
Choose Advanced
For Seasons, choose Library Default, Show, or Hide.
Yeah, that is what I have been doing…but with hundreds of shows this becomes a little cumbersome. I really wish there was a main setting to make the process much easier.
Agree. Current system works, but is cumbersome if you’ve many shows.
Perhaps a better request would be to make sure the season is clearly visible, so to avoid such confusion in the first place.
Either way, this is more of a user education issue, and you appear to be fishing for your users instead of teaching them how to fish for themselves.
I am fine because I know how Plex organizes everything…it’s friends that I share with that are not so bright and easily get confused. LOL
It’s just friends…quiet a few of which are older and/or non tech savvy. It’s pretty difficult teaching them over the phone if they don’t live nearby. Luckily, I have found quite a few good YouTube tutorials that cover the basics for them.

I would expect that most plex users are collecting all the seasons instead of only having one season of a multiple season show.
In other words, collect harder.
LOL. I am running out of room!
The curse of every one here.
Most items causing confusion is my DVR shows…which for a lot of shows that I DVR, I do not save all seasons, only the current season. I guess a work-around for the time being is to put all DVR shows into a separate library and set that library to show seasons. Shows I collect all seasons of can remain in the TV Show library with the “Hide for single-season series”.
It’s recommended to put dvr shows in a separate library anyway, since they removed tvdb matching from dvr.
Well when I say DVR it isn’t always actual OTA recordings…a lot if times it is Sonarr.
I am just going to have to separate out all shows that I do not plan on keeping long-term or don’t have/want all seasons and throw those into a “DVR” library.

Either way, it might be easier for you to keep ‘expendable’ shows in separate library.

Agree! This is what I am going to stat doing.
Perhaps decide, first and foremost, who you want your library to be catered to. If you want it to be easy for your friends, set it so it shows seasons. Or, put in the time and set each show individually.
Agreed. Don’t delete, just expand.
