Yep, I just enabled the old player again, as a fond reminder of how bad it was.
Usability on the Shield is now getting up there with the ATV 4K but without that devices audio limitations.
I was probably a bit late to the party. When I only had my VPS server I disabled VPT generation completely, because I was afraid of a Google ban and the VPS is not the beefiest one.
Since I now also run a local pms with hw acceleration support I gave it a try and love it Google also has no issues with it
Now if they just duct tape some features into the FireTV app (those people they pay to act and such deserve some notable mention), so one could use it… I’ll be able to find stuff to fix.
As it is now - it’s only used to check out the new player - good - move on…lol
I can’t even seem to get VPT to work. I turned it on on my server, and tried the new player, but I don’t see thumbnails anywhere. Where are they supposed to show up?
The old player will be going away in a forthcoming version of the Android client. If you’re seeing specific issues, please post the logs, and describe in detail the steps to reproduce, and we can investigate. We’re aiming to ensure there are no, or as few as possible, regressions from the old player before we remove it.
It happened again last night when my daughter was watching “Fancy Nancy”. I put the show on “shuffle” and about 3 episodes in, it freezes at the beginning of the episode. The time counter thing keeps proceeding as if the show is properly proceeding, but it’s stuck on the very beginning of the episode.
This happened around 8:30 PM last night. How do I specifically give you a log from that time?
The issue happened last night around 8-9pm-ish with the TV show “Fancy Nancy” and today at around 12pm-1pm-ish with “Paw Patrol”.
It was on two different NVidia Shield TV devices, both with the new player enabled. In both cases, “shuffle” was selected for both TV shows. After a few of the episodes, eventually the show gets stuck on the beginning of an episode; the video is completely paused but the progress bar proceeds. The only way to get out of it is to fast forward or rewind, or back out of the episode and go back in.
So I’ve had a bit of a read through the log, and definitely a few errors in there. I’ve passed it along to one of our Android engineers to review further
