New Player on the Apple TV

I think Apple’s response when asked last time for a decoder or HW support was something along the lines of don’t use that old crap :joy:

But still, it could be tweaked to look better on interlaced content with scrolling motion.

Since this appears to be a general discussion of the new player on the Apple TV, I have a question (and issue) regarding forced subtitles.

Are forced subtitles supported via the new player on the Apple TV?

I have the latest player beta, the latest server, and the latest iOS update, however when using the Enhanced Video Player, forced subtitles don’t turn on automatically. If I use the default player and direct play any MP4 with a forced subtitle track, they turn on automatically. I would love for this to happen with eh enhanced video player as well so I can get the benefits of that player too.

I have confirmed this with multiple 1080p MP4 files. The forced subtitles work on the native player when direct played (they don’t work when transcoding for some reason). They also work outside of Plex (VLC, QuickTime, etc). I can post logs and such but since the player is still in beta, I wasn’t sure if it was actually supported at this point or not.

There are a few other ABC stations throughout the country which use 1080i, for example WFAA. From WFAA - Wikipedia :

The station is one of a handful of ABC affiliates that transmits its main channel in the 1080i high definition resolution format; most of ABC’s other owned-and-operated stations and affiliates transmit the digital feed assigned to carry the network’s programming in 720p, the resolution designated by network parent The Walt Disney Company as the HD format for ABC and its other U.S. television properties.

So Plex choose the worst deinterlacing method of the three? Why can’t they just do it like fancybits getchannels, this app is working great for so long, dealing with mpeg2 1080i, and streams starts almost instantly, it doesn’t take 8 seconds to get the video appears

“Enhanced Player ON
4K HDR with any DTS audio - video direct streams and audio transcodes to EA3 5.1”

I’m seeing the same.

The Apple TV 4 came out almost 3 1/2 years ago, and since then the owners of the Apple TV 4 and now the 4K have been able to install apps.

Please, no.

New player was great until I hooked up two Apple homepods in stereo pair, new player only uses one side. Switch back to the original player and works with stereo homepods. Also need a bigger audio boost for homepods they are pretty weak. But really like the direction with the new player just need to fix the audio  thanks for the hard work

Seeing the same thing here. Still no HDR support for the Experimental Player, so 7.1 audio gets trashed into 5.1 EAC3. My setup is very similar to yours: Apple TV 4K → LG SK9Y 7.1.2 Atmos soundbar with the rear speakers → Hisense 55PX OLED.
