bumping this again… we are approaching 2 years on this issue.
It’s never getting fixed.
Can someone from Plex give an official response on this UI regression? Are there any actual plans to bring back the passively displayed overlay?
Update: Nerd Stats are not yet released.
I see a preview of the feature since I’m a Ninja. I thought everyone saw them. Apologies for the confusion. I do not know when they might be released. I am not privy to such information.
Enable Nerd Stats
- During playback, pull up the on screen display.
- Select the three vertical dots on the far right.
- Select Nerd Settings.
- Enable Show Nerd Statistics
Stats will appear whenever you pull up the on screen display.
The setting should be persistent across all videos.
I do not seem to have the ‘Nerd Settings’ option.
All I get when selecting the 3 dots are:
- Go to Episode
- Playback Settings
- Playback Info
- Add to Playlist

It is below Add to Playlist for me.
Maybe because I’m on the beta release?
Based on comments earlier in the thread I thought is was available in all releases.
Thanks, that is what I thought, as I am sure I had a similar answer from ChuckPA back in 2020. (the old thread here.)
Why this feature is still not released to the masses, I have no idea, but it does seem a bit odd.
What is the benefit of excising the capacity to see playback information in the first place? Seriously. It’s not even configuration, just information. What is the actual problem, the concrete danger posed by letting people have access to a tiny subset of operational information?
I dunno. As someone who was bullied for being a nerd, I find it immensely grating to be called one whenever I want to see something as elementary as whether I’m routing through the public internet in order to watch my video files served from hardware in my basement. Why perpetuate the stigmatization of anyone remotely curious about tech? /rant
They can call it whatever they want if they would just add it back in… It’s been over 2 years now since this was effectively removed, requiring me to fiddle through a bunch of menus or take out my phone to check dash.
I honestly see the nerd label as a point of pride. Similar to how other ostracized groups take ownership over offensive terms.
I don’t completely disagree with your point though. People deal differently with things. I too was bullied most of my childhood. Glad that’s over.
I’m hoping the Stats for Neds feature will be coming soon to this new player, as discussed over 2 years ago. I was hoping to compare dropped frame performance between my Apple TV and Shield.
Any chance this feature is ever going to be made available?
It seems not. We have to implement every possible feature that no one asked for first.
You know, like searching all streaming services. 'Cause that’s something I do every day. What am I saying? I do that multiple times every minute. I just have to search, search, search, search, search. And it’s certainly not something that would confuse my parents, who thought the “Movies & TV” section was stuff on my server. Nah.
