I’ve resisted switching to the Plex agents because I didn’t find them to be very good, or at least not as good as The Movie DB and The TV DB. Well, finally got the notification that I had no choice and was being forced to switch. What I’ve learned is that they are both still not very good.
The poster selction is not working correctly for all movie files. Plex receives the correct metadata, but the image selected for the poster is the first one in the list, which is not a poster and is just a random scene from the movie.
So, to complete the upgrade, without a fix, I’ll need to rematch all of the metadata for the new agents and then go in and manually select the poster. That is going to take forever.
Is there any way to force the selection of an actual poster?
I am noticing this exact same behavior… It’s very annoying! Never had an issue with my Plex Server pulling in the Cover Art before. After this most recent Server Upgrade now when I add a movie to my library it returns a random image from the movie. A Single Still Frame if you will. I, like the thread starter have to go in and manually choose a different poster. Usually I have to choose the one to the right of the currently selected cover (Still Frame Of The Movie) as it is an official movie poster.
Never use to exhibit this behavior. I mean it would sometimes select a poster that I wanted to change but it was a poster none the less and would at least contain the movie name. Now it’s a still frame with no text written on it.
I noticed that you are running a Synology Plex Server…. I’m actually running a Windows Plex Server (Windows 10) and am experiencing the same behaviour as you are.
Wondering if there is an issue with the latest update as I updated my Server a week or two ago. I don’t think I was having this issue before I updated either.
I have no idea where Plex Server is pulling the frame grabs from as I don’t believe that it is part of the cover art on tmdb.com
Same issue I would think. It started when the new agents came out. I had kept the “the movie database” agent as it worked but recently got the message that I had to switch.
I uploaded some new movies and wish I had recorded the screen. What seems to be happening is that when the moviei s matched in the agent and the metadata is downloaded, it first selects the correct poster. Then, a few seconds later, it switches to the random scene image. I’ve attached the logs. Plex Media Server Logs_2024-07-15_21-54-39.zip (3.8 MB)
Hmmm…. That seems to have been the case with my issue.
What is weird to me is that those options were only enabled on 1 or 2 of my Movie libraries. My other 3 - 4 Movie libraries did not have them enabled.
I don’t believe that they were enabled on any of my libraries before because I have never had this issue in past and I would have likely encountered it pretty fast.
So I am at a total loss to identify how those settings were enabled all of the sudden on a couple of my libraries but not the rest.
In any case thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
